Saw some comments regarding Frost and the lack of recruiting success ie development, transfers etc....I didn't realize how badly we under performed relative to our recruit classes/rankings.  One sure fire way Ruhl can get us out of the cellar is to develop what we get.  The below shows NU over a 12 year period.  We did poorly.

First off yes, we should start playing like a program that consistently brings in fringe top 25 classes.  At some point though we should raise the bar and stop pretending fringe top 25 is good enough for a historically top 10 program.

***at some point we HOPE it is possible to stop pretending top 25 is good enough at what used to be a top 10 program over two decades ago. 

 
Bo's teams largely finished seasons around the same place as his recruiting classes: around the edge of the top 25. His successors largely achieved similar recruiting class rankings, but obviously they wildly underachieved on the field.

So far, Rhule's recruiting has continued the edge of top 25 trend. Results on the field remain to be seen...

One notable difference is that the level of talent Bo inherited was leaps and bounds ahead of what he left, and his successors maintaining those standards is a worse job of coaching but honestly a better job of recruiting. Winning 9 games a year and getting a top 25 class at Nebraska is probably sleepwalking easy. Winning 4 games a year for 6 years and still being able to get a top 25 class is wild.

 
Not all #25 rated classes are equally talented. There are some 4 star guys who are much better than others. Imo, the recruit ratings are at best only a good start in selecting recruits for your program.  They may be helpful or may not be.  
 

And as I’ve mentioned several times, the class ranks need to be based on all positions proportionately.   25 - four star WR, QB and RB recruits would get you a top ten rank but a bottom ten team. Imo, this was Frost’s downfall or mistake in recruiting.   Too many WRs, RBs, DBs etc and not nearly enough linemen and LBs.  Although he recruited plenty of QBs, it appeared he never really believed he needed more than one.  
 

If you don’t intend to ever play someone, why recruit them?

People go a long ways out of their way to avoid giving Bo any credit.

Despite the fact that, over the past 21 years, no other coach's best season has been better than Bo's worst season.  

Don't the the part where we were producing as many NFL draft picks at the end of Bo's tenure as we were at the beginning get in the way of a good argument.

I believe that 15th ranked class was under Frost, but it didn’t last very long when three four-star recruits from Florida abruptly left the team that summer following signing day. That took a chunk out of that class. Looking back at it, that was a red flag something was rotten in Huskerville.

I really enjoyed the people that said winning 9 games a year wasn't much of an accomplishment just to downgrade what Bo had done.

Bo was a solid if not a great coach. Much of the negativity perhaps comes from some of the most one-sided losses in Husker history. Unfortunately when he lost sometimes, he really lost. What really stung was when that Wisconsin RB rushed for over 400 yards in a game. At the time it was the record only to be broken the same year. So it’s those meltdown losses that probably put off some fans. One of the worst was that loss to Wisconsin in the Big 10 championship. Bo was good and had respectable seasons, and he looks great now compared to what has happened afterwards. But unfortunately he wasn’t conference championship good — many fans here want conference titles, major bowls, and occasionally contend for the national championship. Too high expectations? Maybe but it is the way it is in Husker land.

Agree, other than I don't think it's too high of expectations to want the bolded.  But, fans need to understand the process.  We need to get to competitive and a winning record before those things happen.

The problem with Bo in those losses is that the team went as Bo went.  He would melt down on the sidelines and you could see the team fall apart from there in those games.
