I think that was the case when they were the best conference, but as with this tweet and even with SEC spokesman Paul Finebaum, the narrative has been the decline of the SEC for a couple years running, now. 

This year's narrative is more about the Pac 12 being the best conference top to bottom, just in time for it to be taken completely apart.
