MLB 2024

@BigRedBuster (Chi Cubs fan) and me (Chi Sox fan) having a nice baseball chat here.....

This would be our convo about Chicago Baseball teams......  :)

(And yes I am technically a Ranger fan first most, but I also love the Sox too and stand on this island alone against the Cubbies).  :)

Haha…so true.

FYI…I was at the series they mentioned right after we traded off our entire team and the Sox swept us. It was absolutely horrible.

Okay, so he drops the ball to get the force at second, the batter stops running so the throw to first gets him. So why isn't that a double play?
The claim is that he purposely dropped it. So, it’s not a double play.

Similar play. Why is one a DP and not the other?

I don't know how the rules read, but in the second one he never touched the ball before it hit the ground.  So there may be something saying if it hits your glove then you drop it it's still an out but I wouldn't think there would be anything you can do if it never touches the glove.

I've seen many times where the infield fly rule is called while the ball is still high in the air.

In the comments, people are saying the infield fly rule only applies if runners are on first and second and not just on first.  Well, I thought that's the way it was in the first clip too.

Yes, there has to be runners on first and second for infield fly to apply.

I don't know if there was anyone on second in the first clip.  And I'm not sure if that qualifies as a "fly" - it was more of a line out, but I don't know if there is a differentiation in the rules.

Even the announcers are left in disbelief. What on earth? How could anyone call that interference? I think someone had the runs and was afraid he wasn't going to have time to reach the toilet.
