Arrangements like this are interesting. What if White doesn't end up leaving? Defense regressed some, but is still solid but he only gets middling offers? What then?

I'll take your word for it. When will the press release confirming it be announced? Usually, the local guys are pretty quick to post about it, but none appear as confident at this point.

Left Buffalo as he was passed over as DC. Said he wants to run his own D at either the pro or college level. Felt he'd hit his ceiling at Buffalo. Well thought of by team and his DB's. I think just leaving as a DB coach for one of the teams in the NFL constantly in the playoff/SB hunt will get the attention of kids wanting to play at the next level. His DB's give him credit for their growth and success. Former NFL HC and DB coach on staff will help IMHO. Hope this is a done deal. He is a winner.

I mean ... the news of Cooper leaving broke on a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend. It doesn't seem like that big of a stretch to say that they have a replacement in place but aren't announcing anything until at least Monday.

Sure, could be. Remembering the post-Solich, Mickey Joseph, Peetz, etc. rumors and searches, I just get skeptical until there are more than just scoops from national outlets and relatively little being reported by the beat guys. Hopefully it's a smooth transition and we can all move along.

As far as the recruiting aspect. That isn't really a concern anymore. With the ability to have unlimited paid coaches on staff. You hire a bunch of young up and comers, and then pick your best 10 recruiters out of your entire staff. If any of the older coaches don't want to recruit they don't have to.

I’m confident this kind of stuff happens everywhere, but good god it seems like we can never escape from this kind of nonsense. Less than 8 weeks out and 2 assistants need to be replaced? Smh.

:lol: I love this school. We can't have nice things. My completely uniformed gut reaction is the offense is gonna be much better, but the defense will regress and we will be about the same. It will continue the trend of not being able to put it together on both (all 3) sides of the ball for 20 years now.

White is almost certainly going to leave, even if the job offers are middling assuming he genuinely wants to be a head coach.
Our front 7 is returning a lot of talent in 2024 that won't be around for 2025 (Ty Robinson, Nash Hutmacher, John Bullock, MJ Sherman, Javin Wright). Our secondary is average to below average and will lose major pieces in Gifford, Singleton and Tommi Hill. It stands to reason that even accounting for slight regression in 2024, the defense will probably not show as much promise in 2025. Coaches leave when their stock is at their highest, and it's probably going to be the case that White's best chance to leave will be after the upcoming season because there will be a lot more holes to fill in 2025.
That doesn't mean that Nebraska will have a bad defense in 2025, because I think there's a lot of good pieces that are still young (Lenhardt, Van Poppel, Umanmielan). Just that instead of being a top 15 unit, it may regress to being a top 35 unit in 2025.
