FieldTurf being replaced by grass?

It won't happen right away; they are trialling a heated natural grass practice field first as a test; if it works out they will put the grass in the main stadium after the 2025 season. Apparently the last straw for Rhule was the two knee injuries in the spring game.

Should be interesting regardless!

Is there a time frame discussed on when this would happen?  I can't imagine it happening this year.  So, next year?

One thing that I think helps places like Memorial Stadium switch back to grass is that technology has come a very long ways on watering/drainage/grass variety technology has come a very long ways in the last 20-30 years.

According to @CheeseHusker a couple posts up, they are looking at after the 2025 season.

 
After this season, they will install all the new stuff (grass, heating, etc) on the practice fields for testing, and if all goes well then in Memorial after 2025 season.

Wait...didn't they just redo all the practice fields?  So, after just one year, they are going to tear all that up and redo it again?

I believe what I heard was that they're going to replace one of the fields, I think the outdoor turf one, trying out this new system and making sure it's sustainable.

I thought I read they were going to make 1 of the practice fields a HEATED grass field and it goes well, put the same thing in Memorial. Trying to find the link now….

Well, we've also got that Ag school down the road, and a PGA course management major, so I would think we could grow some quality grass and maintain it well.

 
The heat is a big difference.  I have coached a ton of games and field turf is hot and the ground up rubber pellets get in your shoes!
