2024 Fall Camp Notes - Offensive Line

Coach Raiola says Corcoran is "back to full health" and "ready to go" after missing the spring with a foot injury.

It was worried that he might not be ready to go to start Fall Camp but it appears he's ahead of schedule.  Raiola says he could play anywhere on the OL.

"...as much returning experience and cohesiveness as any position on the offense." Yeah, but will they actually play that way?

I specifically remember taking s*** here for making this comment at this point in the calendar last year, so I'll make it again: There are no excuses for Donovan Raiola this year whatsoever. Yes, he's Dylan's uncle and that part has clearly been huge for the program and probably huge for his retention.

If he's a good offensive line coach then this group continues to make improvement. If they don't, then it's an indictment.

It just can't be as hard as our program has made it out to be with the offensive line in the past 5-ish years.

You can say stuff like that all you want, but in this day and age with the transfer portal and a 5 star QB who can leave at any moment, I would disagree with you.  We have to have a difference maker at QB to have a chance to get this train rolling.

Now I don't disagree with what you said, or in principle, but I just don't see it playing out like that at all. Things are not about performance alone anymore, far far from it.  I don't really like what the sport has become either.

There was probably some kind of misunderstanding with what you replied to in your first paragraph here. I read it twice but I still can't understand what you thought I was saying.

With good coaching and improvement we should have a serviceable offensive line this season that helps our team score more points per game than last season.

I don't know what I'm saying half the time either.   I just meant they'll probably keep him around because he's Dylan's uncle, despite middling o line performance, to be sure he sticks around.

I see. Agreed there.

Yeah I wasn't insinuating he should be fired if the performance wasn't hugely better than last year. Was just saying that I don't think there's any excuse for the unit to not at least be better than we were last year.

I thought the offensive line improved last year. I know the offense was far from good last year but that had as much to do with the lack of quality QB play as anything. You can't expect to be dominate up front if you're consistently playing against a stacked box and are forced to be one dimensional.

Yeah, I mean the WRs were questionable going into last year, we lost 2 of our top 3 RBs in the space of a few minutes, Simms was a disaster, and Haarberg should be playing TE. The OL was... not great, but relatively low on my list of concerns last year.

To me the RBs are our weak link right now. They don’t seem to have a difference maker there. Too bad we missed out on Lacy. Our WRs and TEs potentially could be very good with perhaps with Nelson I’m hoping is ahead of schedule. The other potential weak link, if it actually is a weak link, is DR’s inexperience. But right now no one seems to stand out at RB.

I feel like Emmitt Johnson is being slept on here. He made some big plays last year and with more experience and the time he’s had in the weight room….i feel like he could be really good!
