I rarely notice these types of things but last night was so over the top obvious that even I was surprised.

He's good for sure, but I wouldn't call him generational. And 2 of those clips are just bad coverage by an over matched secondary.

Who was the last player that played that much both ways let alone made significant impacts on both sides?

Nobody plays 100+ snaps a game, and plays like that last catch or his pick against TCU last year are freakish combinations of instincts and ball skills. He's a bit overrated as a down to down CB and WR, but when you put it all together? Yeah, I would consider an all-conference caliber CB and WR who never comes off the field and has a knack for highlight plays generational.
Don't let the annoyance at everything Deion/Shedeur/Colorado getting way more hype than it deserves ruin what Hunter is doing, it's special. And he actually seems like a decent (albeit weird) kid. It's just not natural to play that many snaps, let alone to play well for that many.
Woodson really wasn't even a two way player - don't @ me Michigan fans. Woodson had 10 and 11 catches his two years playing offense. He played defense and returned kicks (which is not unique), and played a handful of snaps on offense.

My main takeaway from that game is that no one should schedule NDSU. I’m not certain what we would look like against them, but I’d be glad to escape with a 1 point win and never put them on the schedule again. Just a really impressive plug and play system they have and they win games with identity.
So I guess I’m giving some credit to Colorado for getting the W. Definitely still see several flaws on that team but the DLine looks improved to me and like they have some depth. I do think our DLine will feast though and it should be a fun QB duel.

I'm quite sure that there are quite a few players who COULD play both ways, but choose to specialize in one role, like the other 99.999% of college and nfl players. Other than the novelty of his position(s) with the Buffs, wouldn't he be better served to become the best player at one position rather than a very good one that plays both?

Similar to my own takeaway.
This was a really risky match-up for Colorado IMO - NDSU is well-coached and talented enough to beat a lot of Power 5 teams, and not just bottom dwellers. Yes, they're FCS, and yes, they're not the "NDSU of old," but they're still a pretty good program. At this point I have no reason to feel confident Nebraska would absolutely beat NDSU. The biggest reason NDSU lost that game last night was they didn't have an athletic/talented enough match up for Travis Hunter. Were it not for Hunter I think there's a real strong likelihood NDSU wins that game.
CU didn't look that good to me overall - they still have some depth/skill issues along both LOS, nor did they look like a very physical team. I think a lot of it for Nebraska is going to come down to how well they can contain Travis Hunter.

There was a Rhule interview at some point where he jokingly said he told the AD to never schedule a Dakota team.
Read some comment or other last night that Colorado is a good 7 on 7 team.

He personally might be better served, but Colorado probably doesn't win that game if he only plays one side. They also probably don't win the game if NDSU took proper pursuit angles and didn't blow a few coverages, and I expect our experienced DB group to do better in both areas.
I was moderately impressed at how well they slowed down NDSU's running game, but they were selling out to do so. Gotta think if they do the same to us we'll hit some chunk plays, either with quick passes or hitting a seam in the blitz.
I fully agree that Colorado is a better team because Hunter is playing both ways. I just don’t know if the hyperbole is accurate or more because people are impressed by a two-way player.

If you can't name anyone who has done something similar in the last 20+ years, it's generational by definition. Although not by literal definition, which is characteristics shared by members of the same generation.
Generational is most often used for talent at a specific position, and I'd agree he's not that special at either WR or CB. But as a player, I don't know what else you'd call it - wouldn't hurt for the talking heads to find some synonyms though, because the word does get old. But it's not inaccurate, it's just referring to his ability to play both at the same time rather than his skills at each one individually.

The question is if he's a generational player because he's the only one that could do what he's doing, or if he's just the only one that is. I can think of at least a handful of players over the last 5 years that imo could be that kind of guy playing both ways but didn't because their coaches very clearly don't see it as a smart move.
