This is 100% why you don't have one in the house. Great move by you!I grew up with guns in the house. Folks were pacifists, but both my dad and grandmother were crack shots and the 12-gauges leaning against the stairwell were for hunting. My brother and I refurbished them as teenagers and went duck hunting two or three times without ever firing a gun at a duck.
As an adult I could never think of a good reason to buy a gun. No matter how I ran through the scenario, the unfortunate version sounded more likely. So I've never owned one.
Last year my 20 year old told me that he was so depressed during a period of middle school bullying that if we would have had a gun in the house, he would have shot himself.
He's grown into a great young man, full of confidence and perspective.
This is the story that turns out the other way so often and it is just not worth it, it just isn't.
