Sons first game experience….Tips/Suggestions?

Taking my 9 year old to his first Husker game this Friday.  Sounds like we will be sitting in the upper addition in East stadium.  Obviously time will be somewhat limited being a Friday game but we hope to be there no later than 5.
 

Anyone have a tips, suggestions, etc on what to do or check out before the game?  How early should we get to our seats?  Have access to parking about 12 blocks away but is there anywhere else closer that would be better to look into parking, even if there is a fee?

 
I would say just walk around campus and show your kiddo what a university is like, which might also factor into the parking situation.  I tend to like parking farther out, as the more I can get away from the largest crowd before I start driving the better.  The band performance pre game down by the Lied Center is a good time always too. 

 
At that age my kids had to stand on their seat in order to see whenever the crowd stood up, which meant they missed some big plays. By the second half I had gotten used to helping pull them up as I stood up.

+1 to Hilltop's comments about getting there early enough to get on the field - my kids really enjoyed that for a while. However, the kiddos got a bit bored waiting for the game to start, so next time we'll stay outside the stadium tailgating and then walking around. You'll have to make a judgement call based on your kid's personality which they'd prefer.

After we go and watch the band warm up which is cool if you haven't seen it before.  

Get to the gates when they open and take him to field level.  You will be close to players warming, etc..  My kids always loved that.

Is there a certain way or place to go to do so?  Think he would enjoy being field level while they warm up.

 
2.5  hours before the game go north across the rail bridge.  Great photos of the North Stadium which includes all the National Championship years.  There are dozens of RV and trucks that have food, tvs, sirens, flags, drinks, kids playing catch, cheers and beers.  Everyone is great, and they welcome all to join in. 
 

50 min before the game starts, walk back across the bridge and your son will see the Sea of Red fans, band, people, smells, sights and sounds. 
All along the West Stadium as you cross the bridge are thousands of people, all gathered to pile into the stadium, hyped up, crowded in, and all the Husker stuff you want to see. 
It’s so fun the north lot across the railroad bridge. 

 
My grandpa took me to Morrill Hall before my first game in 1994.  That was every bit as memorable as the game itself.

Morrill Hall (Elephant Hall) is a great idea.

I’d catch the trophy room. I think it is now in the new TO complex? Used to be NW corner of the stadium.

Getting down to field level during warmups would be good. There’s usually numerous former players, Heisman winners etc. roaming the sideline by the fence. They’re really good about taking pics or signing autographs.

Of course the full band pregame and tunnel walk. Have fun.

Also, don’t be away from your seats between the 3rd and 4th quarter. Light show. It would be better to miss some of the game than that.
