What did we learn Rutgers edition

You are overestimating how good the teams in the top 20-40 range are. Many people do that.
In a day that the number one team in the nation loses to an unranked team, and now I see a bad Washington team beating up on Michigan, anything can happen on any given day. We live in a world of parity and this benefits us as we try to gain relevance again. Every game the rest of the year is going to be exciting and give us a chance.

I have a lot of complaints and concerns about our Special Teams coach & Offensive Coordinator...however...

We're 5-1!!!

Nebraska is 5-1. With 6 games to get bowl eligible.

Fixing the special teams and offense play calling will be addressed in time, but for right now soak in the win Cornhusker fans!

A win is a win is a win...and we're 1-win away from a bowl game.
you summarized my state of mind more eloquently than i did. pumped we're 5-1 but it feels like our offense is regressing, tremendously.  Sloppiness and lack of execution still runs deep in this progrum.  There are too many talented skill players available to leverage with a qb like raiola for us to be struggling this much.  It goes well beyond DR foot mechanics:

1. we continue to call these plays for fidone that are behind or at the LOS and having him outrun guys to the flat- y is he not featured in more posts, outs, delayed routes- he's a monster of a human, yet we are calling plays that should be ran for the likes of barney.

2. We've abandoned the short to medium passing game.  We are over indexing on either horizontal quick hits or deep route combos that take time to develop.  We have size and speed talent- where are the slants, quick ins, west coast type throws that attack 8-15 yards downfield.

3.  The tone was set in the first series with satt calling a read option run play on 3rd and 11 that was stuffed... we're at home, stadium is buzzing and that play call just let the air out unnecessarily from the get go.

4.  I have no idea what the stats say but I'd venture a guess our offense is ranked 115+ in the nation in 2nd half stats.  Whatever we are doing at half needs to be seriously reevaluated.

For as much hate as Satt deservedly gets, the Rutgers OC going pass happy on 3rd & short and 4th & short is 10x worse.

Agree, but in the 2nd half we started to do a lot better stopping the run when they tried. 1st half they did not run it as much as they should have IMO. Especially on that one drive where they had 3rd and 3 then 4th and 3.

Of course it does, but UCLA, Wisconsin and Iowa are not good teams. I don’t believe we are any worse than them. This team plays up or down to its competition, sometimes unfortunately. I just don’t share the pessimism.
I think iowas defense and special teams will feast on us if we play at this level.  I agree, i think we are better teams than them but not if we play like we did today

Agreed. IF we play like today. My prediction, and my hope, is that we get a little better each week going forward. That’s why all these folks get paid the big bucks. Ha.
