I'm ready for quick fix. We've been trying the long rebuild for 22 years. Enough is enough.

That is why Indiana is killing it. This isn’t a 2018 rebuild. Where you had to recruit. You just bring your entire staff and half of our starting 22 with you and tada you are good.  Will Cignitti be at Indiana next year or will he move on?  
 

Nebraska chose not to do the quick fix and instead build it for long term stability. 
 

Do Nebraska fans want a flash in the pan good year or to get back to long term relevance?

Cignitti and Deion have been able to do some things that Rhule didn’t really have a chance to do……

Raid the roster at your previous job.  I guess time will tell what the long term success looks like.

At Baylor, Rhule had 19 wins. 5 came against an FBS team with a winning record.

Exactly this.

You don't think if Nebraska had a season like Indiana is having, where they are legitimately good (not Neb in 2016 "good"), would not help in establishing long-term stability? And how, pray tell, is Rhule currently building long-term stability by getting blown out as 6.5 dogs and when it looks like we already desperately need huge coaching changes and we have an old defense?

A single great season, say 10-2, 11-1, with a bowl win and that could change things very quickly for our program.

We keep hearing about how much time a program rebuild takes, but apparently it doesn't. Programs with lesser legacy and facilities manage to do it all the time. Sustaining a dynasty for 40 years? Nobody is doing that, but they do get to have seasons where they play winning football, upset ranked opponents, and go to bowl games. 

I get that we're 5-2 and one voter in the AP was nice enough to give us a vote, but it feels like we're going to hang on by the skin of our teeth to get that sixth win and bottom-tier bowl invite that lets us declare progress. And let's face it --- this is not just about throwing Satterfield under the bus. This is across the board offense, defense, and special teams collectively forgetting how to play football in big games. And it's so familiar.

That's why it's going to be so fun to revisit this thread after we beat Ohio State.

I don't disagree.  It seems like we should be set up better than most but keep falling flat.

The only thing I would say is it's easy to look at the success stories elsewhere and not notice the other failures.  Michigan should have been in great shape to continue on but seems to be sliding fast.  Florida State is a dumpster fire.  USC has had similar struggles as us since Carroll left.  Florida has struggled significantly.  Clemson may be figuring it out but for a team that was a national championship 

And those are just the ones that would be somewhat peers to us.  Not counting the the dozens of other schools that are constantly on the firing cycle.

Yeah but like, Florida State at least went undefeated in the regular season last year. Clemson has a couple natties in recent history. Michigan just won a national championship. I'm not insane: What Nebraska did from 1962 to 2001 really isn't repeatable now. We're not having a run like we did from 1968-1998 where we didn't lose more than 3 games in a single season.

I can live with a bad season here and there. That's how it is now. Contrary to how many view Husker fans, I think I have a realistic perspective. If you told me "We're going to go 5-7, 10-2, 12-0, 8-4, 4-8, 9-3" over a six year period, I'd take that right now. That's pretty good in this day and age if you're not Ohio State or Bama. I don't see why we can't have a run like that at least once.

I am not calling for Rhule's job.  I. think he is a very good coach, but I haven't seen enough proof this team is turning the corner.  

How many coaches are we going to hire, and then want the OC and or DC fired?  Everyone so far since T.O..  Everyone who has come here seems like we are getting the 2nd rate assistants.  We are not getting the cream of the crop on either side not to mention we can't hire a special teams coach.

Coaches have done an amazing job convincing everyone how hard they work and how much time they have to spend watching film on a FB trap.

With that said, they should take every penny that they can.

I honestly think coaches work their asses off, take their work home with them, lose sleep about it, and are always aware that a million online fans and professional second-guessers are watching their every move. 

 
I know I am not calling to fire Rhule. But I do think he needs to look at his staff in the off season and have some tough conversations and make some tough decisions. For me personally I am worn out from the last 15 years and numerous coaches that they are building the foundation and it needs time. Maybe Rhule will actually succeed. It’s just hard to hear because I think us Husker fans always say that to make ourselves feel better because we don’t want to start over again with a new staff and another Year 1. 
 

I mean s#!t the year Frost got fired us Husker fans were telling ourselves he is building it the right way so it’s taking longer.

And it should be a lot easier to stay at the top than to have to work to get there.  Yet even that is apparently pretty hard.

Which some kudos should be given to Ohio State they are about the only program I can think of who never dropped off the map in the last 50 years. Prob the most consistent right? Unless I am missing a bad decade they had 

 
I honestly can't believe that there are people that are seriously considering firing an OC in year two of a rebuild.  I must not be watching the same games as the rest, or maybe I just watch enough other football to realize that Nebraska is not as bad as everyone things.  We just don't have a game changer right now on offense.  We have two that could very well be game changers in Raiola and Barney.  After that, nothing.  (and that's two more than we had last year)

Yeah it sucks to lose like this, but for crying out loud.  Firing coaches mid season is not the answer, especially in year 2 or 3 or even 4.

Nebraska "fans" are half the problem with the program right now, and until that changes we will be perpetually doomed.  And it has nothing to do with raised expectations.  It is an understanding that the days of the 70s-00s is long gone.  College football is not longer the haves and have nots.  It is closer to the NFL now than ever.  Where 7-6 teams make it to the playoffs.  The more we start to understand that the better everyone's enjoyment of the game will improve.

But, by all means continue to tear down the program you love, and s@#$ing down it's neck.
