Should we fire Satterfield??

Our D may be "good enough to win" but being consistent is another story.  Just look at our season, the 2nd half of it unfolding as if our D is certainly not good enough to win.
Just focusing on the second half of the season- We had 1 bad game on D where our offense did literally nothing.  Yes, the Indiana game sucked but I am guessing it would have been a much better showing had our offense halfway kept us in the game.  Outside of that, we held Ohio State to their lowest point total of the season at that point and we gave up 20 points to a UCLA team that just put up almost 40 on Rutgers.  Our defense has been good enough to win.

You do realize you are doing it again, right?  We are a top 25 defense in virtually every measurable.  We got "walked over" on the first couple drives with scripted plays by an offense that got to game plan against our specific tendencies for 2 weeks.  Our defense is good enough to win.
We've benefited greatly from a cakewalk of offensive foes:

UTEP- 129th in scoring

UCLA- 126th

Purdue- 119th

Rutgers- 85th

Illinois- 84th

Northern Iowa doesnt even qualify

Colorado- 42nd, no run game to speak of

The 2 offenses we faced with a pulse?  We got ran off the damn field in Indiana and when we got the lead against ohio state we folded like a house of cards.  66% of our games have been against teams that rank 84th and above in offense.

I never said our defense isnt good enough to win.  I even said giving up 20 at home should be a win 90% of the time.  But lets be realistic here, our defense is solid to nice when they show up and downright embarrassing at times when we no show.  You can make a statistical argument to really support anything, I think this defense is propped up more by the piss poor offenses we've had the luxury of facing vs actually being a consistent top 15-25 unit.  Eye test wise, we still struggle to get the opposing offense off the field in key 3rd downs and I dont think we've really imposed our will on any one since the rutgers game

I agree.  Against UCLA, the defense gave up 10 points in the first two drives, but it covered 14 1/2 minutes.  While the Huskers had the ball for 3 plays and a punt.  It was brutal, but then they settled down.

The rest of the game the defense allowed 10 points.

The Husker offense scored 20 for us, but also provided 7 extra points to them with the pick 6.

UCLA is 126th in Points per game, somehow worse than our offense. lets not make ucla out to be some juggernaut, that our defense made them look to be at times

How did I make UCLA out to be some juggernaut? Because that was not what I was implying.  I even pointed out the first 2 drives were brutal and consumed an entire quarter of the game clock.  That was bad defense.  The rest of the game they settled down and I stand by that.  In fact, it 27-7 at one point because of our pick 6, and the Blackshirts did everything possible to keep the Bruins from scoring any more points.  I am not putting them into the Hall of Fame, but they did play better after those first 2 drives.

I was more replying to hilltop and the string implying we are a top 25 defense in virtually every stat, I think it’s greatly aided by the poor offenses we’ve faced. I’m

tired of being able to get a sense of how the team is going to do based off the first series or 2.  There’s a reason Phil snow was brought in as well, this defense has not met the lofty expectations that were justifiably placed on them to start the year

top 25 defenses don’t get f#&%ing embarrassed the way we did against Indiana. Top defenses don’t give up 9 min drives to start a game on their own home field

Kind of tired of this song; was I happy with the performance? No.

UCLA has a harder SOS on the season. UCLA opponents have a record of 50-19. Nebraska? 39-35.

UCLA has played the number 3, 6, 9, 11, 17, and 40th ranked defenses this year. We’ve played 2 and 3. The one shared game? IU, where they allowed 17 less points and also scored more.

Based off what I saw last weekend, I could see us finishing with the same record as them.

I’m well aware of ucla’s tough schedule, we would’ve had a same record as them without a doubt if we had that slate

Im simply saying those relying on stats to justify that our defense is a top 25 unit is questionable considering 2/3’s of our games have been against offenses that rate in the bottom 1/3 in the nation, 4 of which are bottom 10.

I would agree with that, we've seen outside of Sanders that are team struggles with a QB that has a pulse IE Altmyer, Rourke and Garbers.

im a bit more concerned about the usc game with their recent switch. He didn’t win the job in camp and the team is in disarray, but my understanding is he’s a big qb that has wheels. All the makings to give us fits all day

Firing a bunch of coaches and starting over for year 3 might work, but I think we can admit it's not a great sign overall for Rhule's tenure. Coaches who make it traditionally make steady forward progess and don't have to hit the reset button after two years.  They don't have to go searching for answers, and bring in eyes on the program to tell them what to do.

At this point, I will be fairly surprised if this turns around to end in 10 win Nebraska teams under Matt Rhule.

It’s a beautiful Saturday everyone, a rare guaranteed non disappointment. What’s everyone doing to enjoy their Saturday?

Me? I’m about to tackle some yard work  and got a brisket smokin away, might hit bed bath and beyond but not sure if I’ll have enough time

Climbing up the ladder bringing down boxes of decorations.  Later I'll be putting empty ones back up in the garage. In between I'll enjoying some football while it snows outside.

In the evening I am heading to Nakatomi Plaza for the annual Christmas party.

I am on the fire Satt train.  Duh. But here is an article that solidifies this (not that anyone needs convincing) . Dude's stats are worse than I thought....I think Holgro would be HUGE for Raiola.....NOTE-  Is Holgro pronounced Haul Grow or Hole Grow?

Unfortunately, my initial reservations proved accurate. Under Satterfield's guidance, in 17 games versus Power Four competition, Nebraska has gained over 400 yards just once — when they gained 405 against a Purdue defense currently ranked 121st nationally giving up 448.1 ypg. They've scored three offensive touchdowns in only four of those 17 games.

The Huskers rank 107th nationally in yards per play (5.26) and 100th in scoring offense (23.6). In Big Ten play, the Huskers are averaging 18.3 ppg, which would rank 127th out of 134 FBS teams.

It has to be done. I caution Husker fans to not take for granted that Dylan Raiola will spend his entire career in Lincoln.

His regression from a confident gunslinger, to a hesitant, slow-processing quarterback is unbelievably alarming. In his first five games of the season, Raiola was 99-of-141 passing (70.2 percent) with 1,211 yards (242.2 ypg), nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He looked like one of the best QBs in the Big Ten. In his last four outings, Raiola is 76-of-130 passing (58.4 percent) with 697 yards (174.25 ypg). He's thrown six interceptions and threw his first touchdown since Sept. 28 against UCLA last week. The longer he's been around Satterfield and his system, the worse he's gotten.
