Malachi Coleman is out

Like he did last game?  If only Hill would have also stepped up last game, and any of the other single digit guys in the back end.
Sadly, whatever the single digits signify in the off season hasn't translated across the board to game play.  I like the idea and the theory behind it, but when the new OC calls out one of the position groups for not blocking that's an issue.  Gotta set the standard for games as well.

And he had Hill partnering him last game. Now, he won't. Even if Hill played liked garbage, he still is our best option besides Ceyair. Now, we'll have to rely primarily on Buford/Hartzog. That's a step down in talent, IMO.

Hill should've been out for a while. Shouldn't have played versus Illinois either.

Hartzog and Gifford are legitimate liabilities.

I actually think if used properly (dime back for example) where he is match up with true slot receivers he can be an asset. He is no smaller than Beanie Bishop who plays for the Steelers as their nickel back. Very similar size/speed. Hopefully an emerging young player or portal addition can take that CB2 spot next year and allow Hartzog to be a true nickel/dime package player.

I’m sure raiola demanded the number 15 since he walks on water and couldn’t pull of the mahomes cheesy shtickkkk routine if he didn’t have his number as well

frankly I’m in the camp the number 15 should be retired and raiola rolls with 7. 15 is sacred turf, turf that hasn’t been earned
Off the topic but I think the winners of the Heisman Trophy winners should be retired. 7, 20 and 30.

Also would make a case for 18 and 27.

On topic, I hope whatever is best for Malachi and is family is what happens. Where ever that might be.

GBR🌽🌽🌽🌽

Callahan just said on KFAB that Clark traveled to USC last week and they didn’t take Coleman.

Probably had something to do with all this.

That could definitely provide a tipping point.  It's one thing to get shelved for SR's, it's another to stay there for a Fre at a point the coaches themselves have openly discussed bringing you back into the fold since the beginning of the season.  I'm not implying the coaches did anything wrong here, especially if reports he's been injured and missing practice time throughout the season are correct.  Like I said yesterday, players are notorious for thinking everybody is just sitting around waiting for them to declare themselves ready.

Hartzog is boom or bust, it just a question of which one will it be that particular pass (if he was 2 inches taller he might have better luck). Gifford I've never understood the hate. I only noticed him when he comes down to make a tackle and usually doesn't get the guy down, but in coverage I don't recall him really screwing up that much.

You don't notice him coverage because he is so far out of the play that he doesn't show up on your TV screen :)

It all makes me understand Rhule’s hesitancy to pursue portal players. Not calling any player out specifically but I think the nature of transfer players creates this almost obligation to play the transfer. You have to really trust your vetting process because it can alienate the younger players on the team who may have signed due to a favorable looking future depth chart, and then the depth chart changes drastically by bringing in a transfer.

Not trying to make excuses for anyone, player or coach, just saying I’m not jealous of the decisions coaches have to make to build and keep their rosters these days.

Fans sort of want it both ways.

We LOVE that romantic idea of the walk-on working so hard and being the example that one day he takes the field and is an All-American.

We love the idea of players coming in as freshmen and developing into badass starters by their junior year.

We love that idea of being a loyal Husker!!

We also love the idea of getting rid of players that "suck" and replacing them with other players.

I thought about 7 too but there’s also multiple notable QBs rocking that number that I feel like it should be the designated number for the starter.

after a while you start running out of numbers which makes it tough. Really the only numbers to me worth hanging up from the last 30 years is Frazier 15 and Suh’s 93.

I liked the single digit thing at first but at this point im over it, just a hollow off-season exercise and I legit think it does more harm than good when said leaders have displayed nothing but a losing culture.  This is just me spouting off but it almost grants a level of protection for whoever has one of those for s#!tty on the field play. Gifford should’ve been benched 3 weeks ago, banks should’ve seen his play calls cut in half.  There is an inherent disservice done to the team when publicized leaders simply aren’t getting it done on gameday

These recognition/status symbols are pointless when the wins aren’t there. Get the winning attitude and swagger back and then we can start handing out accolades

This is where I am at.  Leaders lead.  It's that simple.  Are the single digit guys the top guys on Saturdays.  Blackshirt tradition to me is simple. It has been changed to varying degrees since TO left, but it is simply for the starters.  No off season/pre-season stuff.  The competition to earn a single digit jersey hasn't translated to the field.  Also concerning that there was only one on offense....
