Looks like rumors are Tony White is possibly headed to FSU.  Talking heads have confirmed they have talked....More info behind 247 paywall

Also saying Gus Malzahn as new OC...

 
Would suck to lose a coach laterally like that but it looks like FSU is spending some pretty massive dollars right now after their embarrassing season.

Just like Rhule deserves some blame for our struggles on offense, he deserves a good amount of credit for our defense. Even though he’s spent some time on offense as a coach, defense is his side of the ball imo and I trust him to make another good hire there if this were to happen.

Sounds like Florida State is willing to open up the checkbook, and I've seen something saying they've offered White. But man, I don't know if I'd leave for a job as unstable as that one.

I've also seen another FSU mentioned for White: Fresno State, as head coach. Tedford stepped down before the season due to health issues. They're 6-6 under their interim HC this year after going 9-4 last year.

It's widely thought that Butler was brought in as someone who could replace White if he leaves, but I don't know if there was anything resembling a confirmation of that.

Definitely something to keep an eye on if White gets a HC job. He’d still run the defense but could give Knighton a natural promotion to DC. I’d assume if he left for FSU as DC that they’d want a DL coach from their blueprint.

 
I would not blame him. His defense did its job against Iowa and our ST and offense pissed their pants. You can’t ask more from a defense than holding the opponent to 5 first downs (only 1 in the first half) and 164 total yards, and then watch the offense and ST self destruct. He probably is seeing that Rhule is lost and it is a matter of time before he is shown the door. At some point, you start seeing the writing on the wall. Out of all coordinators, he was the one with the right body language all year long. I really hope he stays but wouldn’t be surprised if he bolted. It is easier to win in ACC.

I've already assumed we take a step back on D with the loss of Nash and Ty.  Hard to replace guys that big with those many starts.  Looking at "likely" starters, I'd guess that can gain another 15-20 lbs before next year.  But if White goes, might not be running a 3-3 next year.  Interesting times indeed.

To add Butler's bio shows him having coached in a 4-3, 3-4, and 4-2-5 nickel, but never a 3-3.  Hoping his "lack of" 3-3 knowledge (and injuries) impacted the secondary more than a reflection of his coaching.

Pretty sure that was the agreement when he was hired.  He has one year of DC experience at PSU in 2013 and they were 60th overall, 26 points given up per game.   He's basically been a DB coach for a lot of his career. That's underwhelming if it works out that way.

College football has changed dramatically since we were a dominant team. NIL and portal has destroyed college football. Nowadays, people have zero patience. They want to win and they want to win now. They cannot be waiting for a coach for 3-4 years to get his s#!t together. If you have an opportunity to win or make more money doing the same job, you will bolt. Those people who argue that the Iowa game and the stupid drama was not damaging to our progress, are clueless. What transpired on Friday goes beyond just losing a game, we are looking at potentially losing some players, may be White, and definitely some recruits. No one wants to be a part of a losing culture.
