the silver lining

Next year silver lining - we don't play Wisconsin, tOSU, or Indiana.
Instead we get Penn State, Michigan and Minnesota.

We also play USC and UCLA again - so that's cool.
Add in Maryland, Northwestern, MIchigan State
And Iowa of course.

Non-Conf - Cincinnati (Neutral site), Akron, Houston Christian

Bold are home games 

Note:  The #1 QB in the nation (HS) flipped two weeks ago from LSU to Michigan.  Total stud 5 star kid, Day 1 starter.

I agree with you on this.  It’s gotta be the biggest position of need to address in the portal.   I would also go after Brown at KState to help solve the WR riddle we always have.  Combine him with the young guys and I think we got something good going on.  
 

And make sure they get it right.

yipee. With the recruiting classes we get, we should be closer to 9/10 wins and not losing to Iowa.

Boom.  At first I was fooled.  We are hanging with these teams.  One more play, call goes our way, extra yard here or there....And now sitting at 7-32 (Frost/Rhule) and go to 14-32 throwing in Riley I realize that we are not getting better or improving. If we were, we'd start to see a lot more 1 score games going into the W column.   Mental, coaching, scheme etc....Or lack of identity.  I think getting good at the basics would be huge.

what is Indiana's class rank and fir how long(not decades)? It starts at the top. Anyone who has played sports in college has many times left scratching their head about coaching decisions

Checked 247, they show us as 23rd and Indy as 39. We look to be 7th in the B1G.  I agree with you as our rankings do not fit with the results we see.....

Yep. OSU, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Penn St, Wisky, NU.....As of today.  With the 105 man roster, NIL and the Portal, we need to be 100% spot on our HS recruits.  Hard to play the long ball developmental game when locked in a 105.

These is contradictory. Outside of the big pass play, Iowa did nearly nothing all game long. I would argue they capitalized on our errors more than they were better than us in anything specific.

Not knowing how to win is the #1 problem.  I don’t realty care about the stats, win the damn game.  The answer is in your comments “our errors”. There are many comments about how when X happened I knew we would lose or when Y happened I know how this movie ends. We make stupid errors that lose games and it’s not acceptable.  ST is overdue for a coaching change. The ST lack of coaching cost us this game. We have senior WRs that can’t catch a pass and senior OL that can’t protect the QB.  Yes we need coaching and player upgrades 100% or expect the same crappy results.

Agreed that winning is most important. It was your premise that I disagreed with. Iowa does not have better talent and arguably does not have better coaching. What exactly would you say Iowa coaches did to win the game last week?

Iowa didn't cause our senior receiver to drop a wide open pass. They didn't cause our senior returner to get inexcusably close to the ball instead of catching it. The coaches teach the players to either catch it or get the hell away. That was solely on the player (IGC) failing to make a decision until the last moments. I agree that Foley has not had as positive of an impact as hoped.  Iowa was gifted the ball inside our 5 and settled for a field goal. They had a total of five first downs and zero third down conversions. In short, our loss on Friday (and most of those on the season) were not due to insufficient talent within our program and I argue that the Iowa coaches did nothing to suggest that they caused the win. 

My belief is where they excel, compared to our team, is that they have an intangible optimism that they can still win after one or two mishaps happen. As this message board will indicate, the second we do something wrong or don't get a flag, a dozen people will comment 'here we go again' or 'fire X, fire Y.' If we think that the players are immune to this line of thinking, we'd be foolish. They know the recent history and struggles. My hope is that a bowl prep, cycling out of some upperclassmen, and a new group of players next year will help end the pessimism and bring about better results.

I disagree. They win like this a lot and have for a long time. They are boring as hell, but they don't make mistakes. And it's not because Iowa recruits a bunch of Rhodes scholars and we recruit a bunch of morons. They coach players to not f#&% up.
