Who's Leaving? 2024/25 version

I don't know how true this is but Huskers Online said there is a chance some of the guys in the portal are trying to test the waters, and leverage more NIL money, and that some could be back. I don't know how true that is.

I do agree that there is no way all these guys get to go to FSU. We are over valuing our own portal losses. Other schools won't do that.

Do you seal your fate by “testing”?  If you have to get to 105 and you got guys that just missed practice how do you let them back?  What kind of message does that send.

”Just kidding guys.  Let’s go bowling!”. I just don’t see it.  But there’s so many factors we don’t know.

I am assuming tomorrow will not be very active as far as signees- maybe I’m wrong, but why would a 5* sign early?

they should have an auction. Like cattle

Was looking for some info on roster sizes around CFB, found this tidbit:

SEC teams (including the new members Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma) in 2023 averaged 121 players on the roster, according to their own websites. That ranged from a high of 137 (Alabama Crimson Tide) to a low of 105 (Missouri Tigers).

So yeah, most are gonna have to cut to get down to the 105 player limit.

This is all so broken. Leveraging for more money when there is no contract says you have to stay. Why pay players if they can leave anytime they want?

Might want to rethink the phrasing on that one.

As for tomorrow, there may be some people signing just to keep a spot at wherever they are committed. Top prospects will be able to find a spot anywhere, but middling or under the radar guys might be jumping on a roster. Wouldn't make sense to risk losing your spot to a transfer with experience in many cases.

In a way it’s a good thing that the roster is locked. Teams were hoarding guys then cutting after spring. That’s not real fair either.

it especially sucks for this year but I’m thinking next year won’t be so traumatic.

And I stand by the auction. It is exactly what is going on right now behind closed doors. Why can’t we watch?  Is this not entertainment?

Mike Schaefer on 247 just said it's looking more likely that Pot Roast leaves, but still not a done deal.
I hope he stays just don't know what Nebraska would have to pay him to stay or FSU to leave.  Don't know if his value is close to a million or 850-900 thousand.

James Williams to the portal
This one sticks in my craw. He was an absolute nobody 18 months ago. The coaches stayed with him (yes I know pot roast is like a father to him) but this program gave him the opportunity. He would have been hanging sheetrock somewhere making $15 an hour.
