What do you mean? Am I wrong to assume that if they refuse to play you can kick their a$$ out the door and stop/recover any scholarship and NIL deal?

Regardless of the "right way" or the "Nebraska way", Prime showed what you can do with the portal and NIL...2 first rounds picks, probable Heisman, Big 12 Offensive AND Defensive player of the year.....Cig at Indy #10 and in the CBP.....SMU....in the CFP....Arizona St in CFP, Oregon in CFP...UT and OSU top 10 portal classes and in the CFP...This is the model.  few schools can wait around and ignore this.   It's sad, but undeniable reality of college football.

That's pretty much what I've been thinking - 'development' is for G5 and FCS teams, and then the big boys will raid them for the ones who rise up. How many redshirts are actually gonna stick around for five years? Though I'd make an exception for O linemen, as they almost always take time to develop both individually and as a unit.

Thats 62 players.  That means 43 players aren’t going to get “significant” playing time.  Acting like the days of development and redshirting are over is a bit of an overreaction in my opinion. All the new limit does is get rid of walk ons, which sucks, but doesn’t mean scholarship guys will be any better than they were a year ago.

Rhule himself said the plan was to almost have 2 53-man rosters. The ones that play and the ones being developed.

Things are wild right now bc it’s new. Eventually it will normalize. There are going to be a lot of players that don’t find new schools and in the future, players will think about this before they go into the portal.

The way the Iowa game ended has added a weird sky is falling to almost every thread. Its bizarre.

The days of development are not over, but the days of redshirting absolutely are. The point is a guy who makes it to his 4th year at a school will be increasing rare, and it's a fools errand to plan that way. Development by playing, and by practicing like you might play any weekend.

I bet $20 there will be some kids that redshirt next year that are still on the team the following year.

What about in their 3rd or 4th year, was my point. Look at what happened just this year with Coleman and Kaelin.  I agree with you there will be examples, but to plan that way as a coach now is setting yourself up to fail is all I am saying.

There will be a lot of kids leaving, sure.  But developing guys as freshmen and sophomores will still be necessary.  I think it’s setting yourself up for failure if you don’t plan on doing that.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see 75% of this recruiting class that redshirts still be on the team as rs sophomores.  If they aren’t seeing a handful of reps in games at that point, a split might be mutual decision.

We're in agreement I believe. Still a strange paradigm this has become in the last decade, heck 5 years even.
