I'm assuming after the bowl game is when the vast majority of the walkons are going to be told they no longer have a spot? I believe there are still 47 on the roster. But, that includes a couple kickers that probably are not going to be asked to leave (Koch, Hohl).
By then, they should have a clearer idea of what they can get from the portal. If there's still room under the 105, maybe a few would be kept for depth and needed positions?
I'm sure they've all been told where they stand. Some might just stop playing football, some might try to change the coaches minds in spring ball - I don't think the 105 limit applies until the fall. Especially some of the older walk-ons, might be worth sticking around and finishing your degree. Get some spring ball film to send out, no portal timing restrictions as a graduate, and emerge at a less busy time.
They aren't going to be offered any significant amount of money from other schools anyway, so might as well take advantage of the training table here while they can and then figure out where to go when they have to. The only reason to go in early would be to claim a spot somewhere, but the FCS schools aren't filling up yet.
