2024-2025 College Football Playoff

That College Football power brokers decided to play the National Championship game the same weekend as what is usually considered the best weekend of NFL games which seemed to garner most of the hype.

I guess we will soon see what the viewership numbers were.  Maybe the powers that be are absolute geniuses!
The only problem I have with the scheduling is that it was on a Monday night.  But, with the NFL games, it just wouldn't be good to be on Saturday or Sunday.

But....I also think it's stupid that the Super Bowl is always on Sunday night instead of Saturday night.

It's been during the week for over 25 years now.  You just can't got head-to-head with the NFL.  About the only thing they could do would be to try to get the NFL to play the Saturday games earlier in the day so the CFP game could be all by itself in the evening.  But I'm not sure the NFL would go for that.

Agree, and since it's virtually impossible to schedule it on Saturday or Sunday, I'm fine with the scheduling.

The regular season (outside of conference championship games) ended the last weekend of November.   CCG’s ended Dec 7.

first round of playoffs should have been Dec 14th weekend.  Second round Dec 21st weekend, third round December 28th weekend and then either Jan 4th or 11th weekend for NC game.    It’s too strung out currently and casual fans lose internet especially when the NFL playoffs really get going.

This is obviously all my opinion and I could get proven wrong once ratings come out.

I mean .... really.  Who would EVER want to watch football on Monday night????

I watch MNF sometimes because it's something to do, but it's my least favorite day to watch a football game and it just feels off for a national championship game. I'd rather they do it any other day. It could be the previous Thursday or Friday, or they could wait until the day before the NFL conference championships. People seem to be complaining about how late in January we are for the game so maybe the latter is too long to wait, but personally I wouldn't care. Saturday would have been 16 days after the semifinals. They could have the semifinals on a Friday so that it's only 15 days (one of them was on Friday because of the terrorist attack).

Let’s just take the “college” out of College Football.

I cheer for Nebraska.  I wish we were better so that we mattered later in the year.

The NIL, the seeding in the playoffs, the transfers, ND not in a conference, the power struggle btwn super conferences, blah blah puke…

I hope some stuff realigns and there is regional, local, national relevance again amongst teams. This whole thing seems like a slow, down the drain swirl to me.

the 12 team playoff at least let teams compete so I’m okay w that, but the Wild West chaos is not interesting to me.  I can even barely keep track of our own players comings and goings for our team.  Let alone across the country.

it’s over, and it’s way too late in the season for this game. I for one am breathing a sigh of relief so now we can focus on spring ball and who even may be in Lincoln in the fall.

it’s kinda gross.

Most of the old restrictions on players were a steaming load of bulls#!t that never should have been in place. I don't feel nostalgic for bulls#!t.

Well, I can see them not wanting to watch if they lose internet.  That would suck.

I mostly agree, however there should be contracts like in the NFL so that there are repercussions for leaving and players aren't just constantly upending the teams' plans by leaving after 1 year. If there's a 1 million per year contract, give them $3 million over 3 years but the 1st year they only get $500K. Maybe this is a terrible idea, but there should be something that makes the decision to leave more difficult.

There are NFL games on Saturdays in January. The schedule is partially (probably mostly) based on when the NFL games are.

Why are you showing me an article that first talks about the value of the regular season?   I haven’t made the argument the playoffs are bad for football.   I’m pro-expanded playoff.

Then it talks about lumping ALL New Years Six games and comparing it to only Playoff games this year.  Seems like comparing apples to oranges.   For example, when parsing out just the  semi finals, last year averaged  22.8 million viewers.  This year’s semi finals (with 2 games of playoff lead in’s averaged 19 million viewers).

They play the game on Monday nights for ratings.  I HATE IT!!!

Last night wasn't as bad since we have days off of school today and tomorrow for cold, so this time it was OK.

" It’s too strung out currently and casual fans lose interest especially when the NFL playoffs really get going.  "
No, you made the argument that casual fans lose interest.  The viewership contradicts that statement.  From the article - In total, the non-Championship game ratings averaged 14.84 million viewers, higher than the average viewership of last year's New Year's Six bowl games of 13.5 million viewers.

Hasn't the championship game been on a Monday for more than a decade now? I get that it's usually earlier in the month but it does seem like there's a lot more fuss about it being on a Monday than normal.

Personally it just feels a bit too late to me. I understand the desire to want to play some of these important playoff games at traditional bowl game sites like the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 but having the game on Jan. 20 just feels... weirdly late. I feel like the play-in for the title games should be around the New Year and then the title game can be within a week or two of that not 3-4 weeks later deep in the middle of the NFL playoffs.
