Only really 2 options for this one. Bryce McGowens or Jamarques LawrenceWith Janowski transferring, it got me wondering....
Who is the most successful (at Nebraska) high school player Fred has signed?
And, in the end it doesn't really matter. Nobody plays for the same school anymore for 4+ years. If I am Fred, I am not putting any more effort into recruiting high school kids that I do shaving my neck beard on Sunday morning.Only really 2 options for this one. Bryce McGowens or Jamarques Lawrence
March madness was a joke. And, in the end it doesn't really matter. Nobody plays for the same school anymore for 4+ years. If I am Fred, I am not putting any more effort into recruiting high school kids that I do shaving my neck beard on Sunday morning.
Developing players in major D1 is a thing of the past. Kids want to play right away & right now we are not going to get these type of HS players. We lost 2 players this yr. due to playing time & both would have played in the future. The question is whether he can make adjustments from the poor 2024 portal in 2025. Basically learning from his mistakes. It's a really good question. Because then you wonder how good a head coach really is? If success comes down to transfer players and good assistant coaches around you.
Excited they won the Crown. But without this brand new post season tourney, you can't overlook not making the Big Ten Tourney.
Getting High School signees, then playing and developing them doesn't seem to be Hoiberg's strong-suit for success. By saying success, I'm referring to him as a top paid HC that got an extension.
Developing players is a thing of the past? Like with Janowski who was listed over 200lbs and 6'4? A player that scored 2300 points in HS? A player recruited by Marquette, USC, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Iowa? A player that averaged 31 points a night his Senior year, and 20 points a game throughout his entire 4 years of Varsity?Developing players in major D1 is a thing of the past. Defense is a thing of the past? You realize that the two teams that played for the national championship had top 20 defenses, right? Defense is the reason Giffiths didn't play - he looked completely lost on that end of the floor.Developing players is a thing of the past? Like with Janowski who was listed over 200lbs and 6'4? What's to develop? A shooter can shoot and a scorer can score. The game is always about scoring points. Defense is more a thing of the past, IMO.
I just don't understand HC Hoiberg. Playing transfer guys like Worster and Uhlis that can't score, can't do much besides dribbling the ball all game long, and rotating Fred's scrappy son to help, with the entire game plan to get Brice the ball. And if Brice doesn't score, it's up to Gary to go "rogue" and slash to the basket or throw bombs that occasionally go in beyond the arc.
We needed offense and needed to score points to keep up, and you can plug in a trie freshmen like Janowski to get you buckets. But it was never even tried.
And don't ever call Nebraska basketball a "major D1" school. Love Husker hoops since the Hoppen days, but they never even won a playoff game in March Madness. I mean, Sacramento State with new HC Mike Bibby will before the Huskers do.
Which means, yeah, you can and you should play true freshmen if you go to Nebraska. But somehow Nebraska thinks they are major D1 and needs transfers? And like, maybe be good enough to make the Big Ten Tournament, when 15 out of 18 teams become eligible to make it? LOL give me a break. You get a good HS player, you play them. It's really that easy.
Are you at practices? You seem to know everything about these player. I'm not, but I'm guessing there is more to playing than shooting.Developing players is a thing of the past? Playing/redshirting is left up to the player. They are given the reality of how much they are likely to play and then they make the decision.
Relax. I'm all for talking hoops, but mostly see more value with scorers and shooters, because the team that scores the most points wins 10 out 10 times. Are you at practices? You seem to know everything about these player. I'm not, but I'm guessing there is more to playing than shooting.

PoorlyThis is a pretty interesting comment from someone who is constantly blaming the players for things that sure look like they're how the scheme is run.
