Emmett Johnson Set to Break Out as Nebraska’s Workhorse in 2025

This makes me wonder about Barthel. Does he not see it in practice or did he just not like Emmett? Kept playing guys that had no problem just running into the backs of the OL.
It has been so dang frustrating. It seems like our RBs have been getting to the line of scrimmage with their eyes shut. So often just one step one way would have prevented them from running right into the back of the blocker and going down.

I hope EJ has a breakout year. I've always like him. If the line is better and he knows he's the main man, I think he will excel. Dana's offense may to a certain extent be 'pass to open up the run'. Is EJ at the same level of some of our great backs in our history - probably not but I think he can be great in this offense that utilizes the RB in different ways and spreads the ball around a lot. I also expect we see more action with the TEs this year.

Pretty sure the OC decides who plays and the position coach is responsible for making sure the players are ready for game action.

which I think is dumb. Position coaches see the guys all day in every drill and team period. As a player and a coach it was always up to the position coach as to who the starter was. Obviously if the game plan works better with a different skill set to make the offense go I get that, but as far as who the most complete player is it should be up to the position coach.

I agree. The coordinator or HC can see someone who they think should be playing more and go to the position coach and ask why they aren't. The PC better have a good reason. If not, the coordinator or HC can force the issue. However, in general, it would be up to the PC to make decisions on who is actually on the field, who rotates in and when.

I remember EJ had a nasty cut on one of the Boston College Secondary players in the bowl game. I mean it was Nastyyyyy. I’m excited for more of that!!
Yes, he kind of left the Wisconsin guy's jock strap laying on the field plus gave him weak knees and ankles at the 30 sec mark on this highlight video. He alone made the whole Wiscy defense look pretty lame.

If I have to choose between the two, I would much rather have an RB with this kind of vision and quickness than one with top end speed.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I am tired of the continued running back by committee. 3-4 backs getting reps means you don't have "thee back". I want that bell cow, in a rhythm, 20 plus touches per game RB. Not the swiss knife, interchangeable, rotation. Get a clear 1-2 and roll with it.
Sometimes I think coaches get so worried about not giving other guys touches and/or giving one guy too many touches, that they switch guys out.
