2025 Fall Camp Notes - Defensive Line

Word is Lenhardt, Van Poppel, Jeudy and Keona Davis are expected to get the bulk of the snaps along the DL. Lenhardt especially said to be looking good.

Nwaneri and Parrott as said to be working their way into the discussion.

What is everyone basing their fear that the D line is going to take a big step backwards on? Is it just because of lack of experience?

I think that is a lot of it from a fan's perspective.

But I was just reading an article this morning that was talking about the DL not getting much done in the recent scrimmage. I can't find the article again now but basically saying Nash and Ty played a ton of snaps and made a ton of plays and we just don't have anyone on their level now. It wasn't so much of a "we're terrible" take as much as we don't have guys who are going to demand attention and make plays and we're getting kind of pushed around.

No body types to reproduce how Nash and Ty played. So the style needs to change and that is cause for concern. Then add in a new DC and DL coach and everything starts to feel unproven real quick. That's before we start to get into the depth concerns with the amount of backups that left with the old staff that looked primed for production reps this year.

I just get the feeling that the fan base is beat down to thinking, well, if we haven’t seen a guy produce, he must suck. But, the fact is, these guys were behind two pretty dang good guys. There’s a reason we haven’t seen a ton of them.

This is how our lines should be. Have great upperclass linemen then ones that step in when they leave.

I know they aren’t proven, but I fail to see a reason to write them off as bad before they have the chance to prove they can carry the load as a starter.

Heck, a couple years ago, people were saying Nash and Ty weren’t anything that great.

I’m excited to see what this group does.

Who is the kid from North Dakota? I guess he is doing well on the line???

Nwaneri should be on on every single passing down and just let him go, two moves only, outside rip and bend, inside rip and bend. I would not even worry with bull rushing right now just because of how tall he is...just let him go on every passing down.

Kade Pietrzak. He's definitely been getting some mentions. Will be interesting to see if he can crack the rotation right off the bat. Sounds like he might at least get the four-game redshirt treatment.

Thank you!

That DL is going to struggle this year against the run. It will be very annoying against super lame teams like Minny who will run the ball 50 times and be happy getting 3.5 yards a clip.

I feel like it's gonna be that way for whole defense TBH. The talent is there, but not the experience. Probably gonna see some inconsistent performances, and at times maddening failures.
