2025 Fall Camp Notes - Defensive Line

I just get the feeling that the fan base is beat down to thinking, well, if we haven’t seen a guy produce, he must suck. But, the fact is, these guys were behind two pretty dang good guys. There’s a reason we haven’t seen a ton of them.

This is how our lines should be. Have great upperclass linemen then ones that step in when they leave.

I know they aren’t proven, but I fail to see a reason to write them off as bad before they have the chance to prove they can carry the load as a starter.

Heck, a couple years ago, people were saying Nash and Ty weren’t anything that great.

I’m excited to see what this group does.
Agree! Drives me crazy when posters say we are not going to be good. Im at a wait & see! I thought our LBs last year were average. If this group takes a step or 2 forward, they will help the line look better.

Van Poppel, Jeudy, and Keona Davis will play a bunch of snaps. You could put Lenhardt in here but I see him more along the lines of a Jimari Butler replacement than the meatier parts of the D-line.

However, they either do the Ty Robinson/ Nash Hutmacher thing with these three and wear them out or they need to get something from the new guys/ underclassmen.

Sua Lefoto
Gabe Pietrzak
Dylan Parrott

However, the keys to a great season and a fresh d-line @ the end of the season will be getting meaningful contributions from (guys who have gotten extremely little press or love since they arrived)

Gabe Moore
Jaylen George

It'll be interesting to see what happens- the Cinci offensive line is not supposed to be a strong suit (2 returning starters, a tackle from USD transfer). We'll get a good preview in that first game before 2 cupcakes after.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!

Cinci line isn't supposed to be great but they have the size.

"On the offensive line, senior center Gavin Gerhardt (6’4” 300 lbs.) and senior right tackle Deondre Buford (6’4” 318 lbs.) return. Gerhardt is a three year starter; Buford a two year starter. They’ll be joined by junior right guard Taran Tyo (6’4” 325 lbs.), a transfer from Ball State, and senior left tackle Joe Cotton (6’7” 315 lbs.), a South Dakota transfer. But with Tyo and Cotton having to replace a first-team All-Big XII player and a seventh round NFL draft pick respectively"

I believe it was mentioned in a presser that they will rotate a lot like they did Tony White's first year. They left Ty and Nash in much more last year. I'm sure they will have something like a hockey line as far as substitutions go.

To be fair: George and Moore have been hurt the whole time they have been here. And George is the only decent one of the two. Not expecting Moore to be here next year with tighter roster limits.

Nwaneri is going to be in the rotation too. I think the top 4 are RVP, Jeudy, Davis, and Lenhardt but we'll see a decent amount of Nwaneri and George rotating in. Parrott/Lefotu will see some time against run-heavy teams. It's definitely not going to be as disruptive a line as last years, but there's a decent amount of experience with Jeudy, Lenhardt, George and even RVP (not many games, but quite a few snaps each game he played) and some solid upside with Nwaneri, Davis, and RVP.
