UCLA Game Preview

Deshaun Foster's hiring never felt like a strong one to me. I mean he had been a position coach for a decade, no coordinating or HC experience. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact Chip Kelly left them high and dry in February after the major carousels were complete.

It's a tough place to win at.
613-426-31

Their all time record is nothing all that impressive. To give people an idea they have about 100 more wins than Indiana who is one of the worst all time football schools.

It just isn't a great job, if it wasn't "In LA", it would be a total dud.

The Rose Bowl is 45 minutes from campus, which sucks for students.

It just kind of sucks.

Fleck would actually be an amazing hire for them and maybe the best they can get.

I could MAYBE see a run at Pat Fitzgerald.

Tony White will be a prime candidate

Worth noting the interim HC since he is likely who we'd be facing. Tim Skipper. 7-7 overall, hasn't had a permanent HC position it looks like. Did coach a full season as the interim though last year with Fresno State, they went 6-6 and lost in their bowl game.

That's what Foster was though. I don't think they're getting anyone cheaper - it's just change for changes sake if that's how they go about it.
Yeah, I think it was dumb to fire Foster unless they've got someone better already lined up. I suspect their admin is incompetent, so this might just be a CYA firing by the AD. I think UCLA will be bad for another 5 years at least.

Dave Aranda (from the west coast and move up to the B1G), Brent Brennan (UCLA alum) plus Fitzgerald listed as possibilities by On3, along with several coordinators, including White.

Lack of money, lack of leadership, lack of fans.

This is why D-1 needs at least 2 tiers of football, maybe even three.

1. The ones that care and spend money to win

2. The ones who try to win and maybe spend money, but are really trying to grow a program.

3. Ones that think it is important to have a FB team, but don't put the resources into winning or building a program. Probably a BB school.

It will interesting following Wisconsin on this. Alvarez berating fans for being upset with the product on the field. School lags in spending on the product and NIL. Madison fans not happy with the AD.

Leadership for sure. As for money, campus is near Beverly Hills and they have NIL pockets. But until football gets going, they will keep it with basketball first, and then baseball and softball.

As for fans, the Rose Bowl is in Pasadena and about 25 miles from campus (plus LA traffic - yay for students). Traffic sucks no matter where you drive in So Cal lol.
