Michigan Game Preview

I don't know what it is, I just can't help but feel since the Cincinnati game that something's different. That's the exact game we have lost for years now, just over and over. That's what had me so pessimistic for a long time now. And then they pull it off against both BC and Cincinnati, I know neither team are world-beaters, that's not the point, the point is that, in most of these losses, it has been Nebraska that beat itself, Nebraska that gave the game away. It's a mental thing. If that's turned around, then I think we win this one, boys, I think we do. It will be close, but I think we win this one.

I didn't get to watch the HCU game. But I just saw that HCU had 13 first-down rushing attempts and averaged 6.8 ypc?!?!?!? Yikes.
One of those was for 45 yards and a TD. That play was bad, but it was one play against our backups.

Tried piecing this together from looking at a list of plays. But, the other first downs were (in order for the game).

2 yards
-1 yard
0 yards
7 yards
2 yards
7 yards

Half

8 yards
-2 yards
45 yard TD
8 yards
8 yards
Fumble
3 yards

So, the first half was really when our starters were in along with some subbing of seconds. They averaged 2.8 yards per attempt.

Greetings, Michigan fan / Husker lurker.

Michigan LG El-Hadi got his ankle rolled up vs Oklahoma and is doubtful to play...definite concern.

TE Klein and S Moore on track to play Saturday which is great news.

QB Underwood's running skills were showcased on the Chipps and for a fan was as thrilling as it was terrifying to watch.

Looks to be a closely done thing either way.

Go Blue!

The ups and downs of relying on your running QB are nothing new to this fan base. For your sake I hope he can stay healthy. I think your season depends on it.
A lot of pundits are saying the game comes down to the Michigan running game vs a Nebraska defense that hasn't looked great against the run. That will definitely play a part but the bigger question to me is can your guy complete passes when we sell out to stop the run. If he can, I think Michigan wins. If not, I really like Nebraska in this one.

We're seeing good (what I call) Point Outs in this thread. Some of it is chipping away at my confidence in this upcoming game. But I'm feeling pretty good about an attitude by the team we have not seen as this deep in quite some time. We've seen it as a thin layer here and there over the past (too many) years, but this season it does seem more integrated into the player's sensibilities as we watch them and listen to them.

That's the stuff that can overcome adversity, and I think this coming game will have a lot more of that than the first two games in spite of what we know is going on with the coaches and some of the players.

I still don’t understand

The way I've explained it to myself - not sure if this is right or not - is this basically shows how much better one team was than another on the average play during that game. So, on this one, Michigan was significantly better than CMU for the majority of the game. The farther to the right, the more you dominated.

For the games on the left, the teams that lost actually were generally better than the team that won the game. That would mean that the big plays - turnovers, return TDs, penalties, etc. - went against them to turn the outcome of the game.

So, basically, if the point spread was different than what the graph shows, it was the big plays that turned the game one way or the other.
