What did we learn?- Michigan State

I was pleasantly surprised to learn Lenhardt & Davis did not leave via the transfer portal this offseason. Perhaps Malachi will catch a pass next week???

In the recent past this team couldn't overcome mistakes or missed opportunities. They overcome a vast array of them yesterday. A mixed bag, but I'm choosing to believe this is progress in the form of talent & mental toughness. Next test, win games on the road they are supposed to win...

There's always going to be a small but vocal portion of the fanbase who are just miserable c-words and are going to complain about everything no matter what.

I think we're also dealing with a relatively large subset of fans who are Scotch Frost loyalists, who are hoping and praying Rhule is as much of an abysmal failure for . . . whatever reason.

My advice is don't feed the trolls and just enjoy the rebuild, because it is trending in the right direction, no matter how much they try to tear it down at every turn.

This team would beat the custard out of any of the Scotch Frost Nebraska teams. The progress is real, and it was never going to be an instant turnaround.
It’s possible to be both content with the progress and demand a basic level of competence.

The state of the o line is in satterfield level of incompetence, perhaps past it given it’s year 5 of this experiment. Rhule acted with urgency to address the OC spot and its paid off well for the most part- I’d like to see something done about the o line coaching.

Side note, I don’t think the frosty loyalist crowd is that sizable. What grounds could they possibly be standing on lol

Who ???

I am learning to not immediately go into "well, here we go again, another meltdown ugly loss" thought process once the other team gets going...twice this year it looked that way (Cincy and yesterday), and the past 10+ years would support that thought process.

My mood is pretty much take a deep breath, shake my head, and take the W.

If we can keep finding a way to win ugly, I'll take that over another seven years of close losses...

Not Dylan or the offenses best performance. We put up 38 points anyway. Defense looks elite all things considered. We have a weakness against QB run/scramble but its hard to be great against everything and thats not the worst thing to struggle against.

We had more issues with their stationary backup QB yesterday than Chiles, it seems.

He played well in relief but I think if we would have played a whole game against him he may have had the same problems every other QB the Skers have played faced. Still haven't had a QB hit 100 passing yards in a game against us yet.

Nwaneri starting to look like the player that earned a five-star rating in high school.
Lenhardt made some plays after not showing up much before yesterday.
Out of all snaps played by defensive linemen, only Jeudy and Lenhardt are upperclassmen.

McCullough is a problem. And I'm here for it.
Good to see Dawson Merritt get some snaps.
Unfortunately McGahee hasn't progressed from his late-season promise last year.

Andrew Marshall was a great addition.
Donovan Jones contributing much more than I expected.

He seems to be improving week by week and on a path to be our next great D-lineman.

I’m hoping we get 2 more years out of him, but wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to the league after next year if he keeps developing.

We still struggle when we should be putting in the dagger. Fortunate to have stopped their momentum during the last 7 minutes.
DR’s uncle and his coaching may be his biggest obstacle- there were way too many sacks again today
And MSU was last in the national with only 1 1/2 sacks going into our game
