UCLA Game Preview

Gramstad is the backup, Davila is traveling as the 3rd guy. At least how I heard it. Tackles are Pritchett, Corcoran, and Knaak, with Preston Taumua as the next up LT and Grant Brix at RT.
I'm going off of what Rhule said in the press conference today. He was asked if Marcos is the backup and he said yes.

I'm pretty sure Luke being as good as he has been has played a big part in them not getting a lot of showtime.

Yes, but that's mostly because he's a good blocker (as I alluded to). Haarberg and Nelson are by far better athletes, so one would think they would be an asset in the passing game but we don't use our TEs in the passing game very much.

And when we do, Luke is a better surprise to the defense because he is used as a blocker most of the time. When #10 comes in the game, defenses have keyed on him pretty well so he isn't open often from what I have seen.

Eh .... Lindenmeyer has been targeted 32 times on 219 routes (14.6%). Haarberg has been targeted 10 times on 61 routes (16.4%). So they're both getting basically the same looks. We've just only targeted tight ends 44 times on 265 pass plays (16.6%); just not a large part of our passing game.

I don't think it is fair to group Dylan and TJ's downfield throws. The kid was thrown in unexpectedly and his instincts took over to run when he didn't see what he wanted to see on the long throws. He obviously has the willingness and capability as we have seen from his earlier season passes against weaker competition.

I do think there is a different conversation to have regarding DR and coaching.

Every Sunday you can watch QBs as talented and experienced as Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott trailing in the game and facing fourth quarter prevent defenses and being forced to check down, throw the ball away, take a sack, or like Lateef scoot for the 10 yards the defense leaves for them.

For what it's worth, Dylan will take a big downfield shot a couple times a game -- often on first down as analytics recommends -- and Husker fans on the Game Day Thread lose their crap that Holgorson has abandon the run for YOLO playground ball.

That's almost 5 targets per game. I guess I don't see that as...not using them much for tight ends. But, I don't know how that compares to the average in FBS.

It must not be too bad because we have two really good TE prospects for 2027 pretty interested in us.
