Coaching Carousal 2025 Version

Unless Lane just likes taking different jobs, I really don't see why he would leave Ole Miss.

Or maybe Oxford is just a bit a$$-backwards and he doesn't like it there.

I don't think he leaves either. Just like Rhule was the odd-on favorite for Penn State, until he wasn't.
Yeah, good point.

I just don't think that jobs at one school are all that much better than jobs at other schools anymore.

If UF was a 100% job, what is Ole Miss? 95% or 90%? Seems pretty close now with NIL and transfers.

I predict we see several schools hiring successful lower level coaches in an attempt to duplicate Indiana's success. I also predict we start to see a different style of contract for Head Coaches. Something has to give eventually.

LSU is a far superior job. That one is common sense. Better recruiting plus NIL. Something is rotten at Florida and thus I would stay away. This is going to be a wild offseason!

I'll believe it when I see it. The new extensions to Cignetti and Rhule don't speak to that different style.

Not much different. But Rhule didn't get an increase on his base salary in the out years but did get a pretty significant incentive included. I don't know that I've ever heard of an incentive like that.

Actually Rhule's contract is different than the norm. Providing a 1 million dollar raise for playoff appearances is forward thinking and incentive based. It also obligates the school to provide more which is unique. I think we will see more aggressive versions of this.

I assume “different style” meant a) lower annual salary, b) more incentives for winning, and c) lower buyouts.

Rhule hit b) above. But his salary is already pretty high (and will continue to grow from the next few years until the extension kicks in). And his buyout conditions remained unchanged.

Of course his is - no way we could be competitive without those factors right now. If you expect to see a big percentage of a coach's salary tied to performance, you will have to look at coaches that don't have any other option because they would be a fool to accept such a contract when most others offer the majority guaranteed.

I do think we will start to see a shift to more incentive based pay but it will take time and you will see it at the lower level school who are forced to take bigger risks with their hires before you ever see it at places like Nebraska.
