UCLA- What Did We Learn

Great to see another W for the Huskers! With that said, here are some initial thoughts:

1. With a week of preparation, Lateef looked amazing and definitely brings something different to the offense with his mobility.
2. EJ is EJ...who is potentially the best Nebraska RB over the past 25 years. I have said it before and will say it again...he runs a lot like the legend Emmitt Smith.
3. Dana had a great game with focusing on the run by EJ and Lateef first and foremost. He played to the team's strengths.
4. I am concerned that we are 10 games into the season and Butler still has not figured out how to defend a mobile QB. It speaks to his ability to adapt in the moment and have his squad ready for anything.
5. The team stat comparison is insane with this game. Both teams possessed the ball exactly 30:00...not sure I have seen that happen often. Neither team had a turnover. Total yards difference was 361 to 348. Nebraska had 156 rushing yards and UCLA had 157. Nebraska had 20 first downs and UCLA had 21.

The big story in this one was how well Lateef did. He scanned the field arguably as well as Raiola has this season and made that read to throw a couple quick passes that were critical plays.

But you also just have to talk about Johnson. Guy embodies that red ‘N’ on his helmet like few players of the past 10 years, IMO.

Emmett has been protecting the football and basically just corkscrewing his body downfield. When he gets in rhythm he kind of feels unstoppable.

On defense, we made just enough plays to slow Llamalalavallavazza down.

And then for me the best part: we iced the game with a mix of leaning on Emmett but also having the guts to throw to move the chains. That was awesome.

Where are all the people complaining about when timeouts were called??? This should be EJ's last year. He's not beat up because coaches were stupid for the last 3yrs and barely used until half way through last year

EJ is a dude. Solid player, team mate and appears to be a great person. I'd like to think some end of season accolades, but we're Nebraska and we seem to miss those. But how do you ignore what he's done. Made more improbable to me with our OL play all season.

Somehow we seem to lack that killer instinct. Of of course other teams have a say in how they respond.
Nico was one shifty QB. A legit talent.

Perhaps one of the best games I have seen the OL play this year. Lack of passing possibly played in, but they were aggressive, firing off blocks and on some of EJ's runs hustling 300lbs down field to block

TJ- in one full game against P4 team seems legit. He gives us a fighters chance next 2 games. BUT they'll have film on him now.

7-3 seems miles away from where we were under Frost. And another 1 score win. On the road.

Can you imagine how different the UCLA game last year probably would have been if Johnson had been the designated starter all year to that point and he was up to speed/doing some of the stuff he’s doing now, and we were actually using him that same way?

Last year was kind of a joke from an offensive coaching perspective.

And so was the Minnesota game this season. I’m still not over that one. Holgorsen was terrible in that game, but then he snapped out of it.

We were REALLY close to being 8-2 right now. Inb4 “close doesn’t count and there are no moral victories.”

Rhule has helped this team to improve.

Team played better with Lateef. More enthusiasm. More physical play. Don’t know if it was a one game emotional lift but if the Huskers keep it up next week, I would honestly dump the big NIL investment on Dylan and the salary on his uncle and spend it on keeping the defensive secondary happy.

holgerson puts together some nice drives, but can't seem to coach a complete game. we should have had more than 28 points tonight.

i'm not sure why john butler gets so much hate. the defense has been competent every single game. it's not breaking any records, but the offense has been way more inconsistent.
Well, the offense could’ve scored more points if the defense could’ve gotten off the field. UCLA was 8-14 on 3rd down and 2-3 on 4th. UCLA had 3 drives of at least 12 plays.

Haha. Somehow this is correct

-EJ seems to really do better with the quarterback under center
-I couldn't stop counting how many times Dylan would have been sacked last night due to his slow feet and failure to get rid of the ball
-Dylan looks and acts like and thinks he is Mahomes but, "He "ain't" no Mahomes". Is he a very expensive bust?
-I agree with the failure to "spy" on elusive qb's
-I still have no idea what holding is and why it is not called on every play.
-Too many of us got spoiled in the Devaney/Osborn era. We are a small market, cold weather school.
