Really good Huskers last 15 yrs

I am I

All-Conference
Since it has been a while since we have a decent winning season, and we have a couple games to go to prove our worth (we have a punchers chance in each of the last 2 games).
I thought it would be a nice reminder of some great players and some plays we’ve had over the the last 20 seasons to remind us that we have had some ballers and had fun watching plays and players go compete for Nebraska.

Swift
Ganz
Incongnito
Dillard
David
Hagg
Gomes
Martinez
Westerkamp
Amukamara
Armstrong
Murtha
Pierson-El
Gerry
Clausen
Helu
Suh
Dennard
Burkhead
Gregory
Martinez
Compton
Ozigbo
O’hanlon
Crick

Many more I’m sure, but that’s just off the top of my head the last 20 years. Add yours for ballers and fun, or a specific play. It’s really nice we are winning some games, I’m sure we will remember in Cornhusker Lore some of the new names coming out the next couple yrs.

Let’s start a list of the new names we should remember:

Johnson
Robinson
Spielman
Hutmacher
Singleton
Raiola
Palmer
Evans
Barney
Pritchett
Wright
Lindenmeyer
Singleton

Anyway, add your favorite players to the list in the last 20 or have a few plays to make your case.
I’m really excited about a lot of our players and I think we have one of the most fun N teams to watch and cheer for in a long time.
I think we can add some names to the list for the next couple years.

Maybe this is going back too far but here are a few more:
Adam Carriker
Bullocks brothers
Bo and Barrett Ruud
Zac Taylor
Fabian Washington
Todd Peterson
Sam Koch

Did Compton suck prior to his senior year? I seem to associate his name with disappointment, but maybe I'm thinking of the wrong guy.

I think he was solid all along. But he was just a role player on the elite 09-10 defenses, and then ascension to the starting lineup corresponds with the defense falling back to mediocre. So associating his time with disappointment is normal, those were some bad run defense. I'm not sure how much of that is on him though. We moved to the Big Ten and never capitalized on Suh's dominance on the recruiting trail, the DL was not good. And particularly in Bo's system, if your DL can't hold up the LBs just can't make up for it, their job is too hard. Lavonte David came really close in 2011, but we still gave up 200+ yards rushing in 4 games and 190 in another. Compton was good - really good is probably a stretch.

I think a guy who was in the NFL for nine years can probably be classified as "really good."

Yeah, that's fair. I'm probably falling into the exact logic I described, downplaying his level of play because the overall defense wasn't great. He had the misfortune of following Lavonte David, and both of them had the misfortune of ending their careers behind mediocre Big 12 defensive lines playing in the Big Ten.

You might be thinking of Dilliard. He seemed to be an underperformer until Bo challenged him. Then his senior year he blossomed.

I'd add Dillard, Eric Hagg, Matt O'Hanlon to that list wt SUH. Our last really great D. Plus Alex Henry - what a great team - with a half way serviceable offense - they would have, could have, should have been NC. Wished Ganz had one more year left or TM had been ready to play earlier. They were a QB away from a historic year. Bo may still be our coach!
