QB Dayton Raiola

Sucks to lose a kid w pretty good skills who really really seemed to want to be a Cornhusker.
I’ve followed him pretty closely the last couple years, he’s good playing against good competition in high school, but I just don’t see it translating to the caliber we need in the B1G to be where we want. I wish him all the luck.
I hope DR and TJ stick it out here for a real battle in the spring.

Criticism is one thing, the continuous bagging on them is another...

yeah...anyone reading the game day thread would see how much some outspoken fans around here like to bag on the Raiolas.
But isn't that about par for any larger program..?? especially now with NIL..?? it kind of went from "student athlete" to paid athlete that must perform.

You will always have the fringe vocal groups chirping and I'm guessing HS recruits, that want paid, will have to learn to tune it out..

Have you read this board or the page for Dylan in recent weeks? There's a whole lot of negative sentiment surrounding Dylan & Donnie and some quick dismissals of Dayton's decommitment this morning. That is disappointing to me.

While I am optimistic about TJ, I think we should pump the breaks on anointing him and see how he does against an legitimate defense.
QB2 is always the most popular until he's suddenly QB1. I think TJ is a great QB, but Dylan is one of the best this program may ever get, most may never be doing interviews on sunday. TJ probably won't be the one who can win us the next 2 games, it'll be EJ a great game plan by the coaches, and a disciplined team that refuses to quit.

The problem is that it wasn't just the fringe being vocal, it was large chunks of the fanbase chirping. TJ played well against a defense that could be challenged by Millard South's offense and all of a sudden the most talented pure QB in school history is supposed to be seriously consider the portal? Just makes me question the logical versus emotional thinking going on with many fans.

Getting back to Dayton, I am very curious whether he considers joining the class or if this is a done deal. If done, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets offered by Hawaii very soon among several others. His offer list is not indicative of his talent as most schools didn't even bother recruiting him once Dylan committed two years ago. With the coaching carousel ahead, there will be a lot of moving parts in the coming weeks/months.

It sucks to lose him, I think he's a really good QB, but he wants to start somewhere, even if there is competition. With what we have, and Trae coming next year, someone has to get squeezed. Trae is everything you could want in a star QB, 2 years to peer recruit the very best and build momentum. I think this 26 class is a portal class to plug and play upperclassmen to keep everything smooth and allow for better development. Rhule has some sort of master plan; he has always been downplaying this class and dodging questions. He knows and believes something that he is very confident about. I think Dayton was always a no-brainer recruit because of what kind of human being he is, but he's also honest and it couuld have been a conversation like "you are good enough to start somewhere, but you may really have to fight to start even a year here, if you open up now SDSU or UH would let you play multiple years". I think there's nothing but love, and sometimes love hurts.

Even during Dylan’s recruiting process it was known how much Dayton always wanted to be a Husker someday. IIRC, it was also Dayton who helped reopen Dylan’s recruitment - listening to Dylan and sharing with Dom.

With the family ties and current roster/coaching situation, you would hope it all works out in the end. Considering all the factors in play, just hope it is a net positive for all parties involved.
