Your 2025 Nebraska Cornhuskers

I don’t think you can separate the front 7 (or front 5 that Butler sometimes called). They have to be working together, especially when you run a 3 man front. That front has to eat up linemen and keep blockers off of the Lbs to allow them to take angles to scrap and fill running lanes. That never happened and the Butler never made any adjustments.

He called a 3 man front on 2nd and goal against Iowa…And that right outside linebacker isnt even a linebacker's it’s Rex Guthre! They are essentially in dime right there.
This is the play Damon lost it.

I think C. Wright's draft slot will show he should have gotten more love than this. I know the kid at USC would not like to go up against him again.
I don't think he is going to get drafted, at least not very high. 30 CB were taken last year and in a couple rankings he isn't in the top 30 on any list I have seen so far (ESPN, CBS, PFF, some odd ball ones like Walter Football etc.)

But I did separate them :geek:

There is plenty of blame to go around at both positions. I just think the average fan is overly focused on the DL. Even with 9 and 0 back up front I think we would still have problems because of the guys behind them. Like I said before I don't think the LBs have "it" in run first or in coverage.

Yeah, it goes both ways for the DL and LBs. I agree the LBs were a big part of the problem, but even good LBs look bad when they're constantly fighting off OL with essentially free releases. And the DL looks bad when there is a big crease, but a lot of times the problem is the LB just wasn't where they were supposed to be. I do think Shavers and Wright in particular looked good at times (coincidentally the new 0 and 9), just like Keona Davis, Williams Nwaneri, Riley Van Poppel, and Kade Pietrzak looked good at times. Without a true stud at either level, the flashes from each player just didn't match up often enough. Better LBs would fix some of the problems, so would better DL. We need both, and I do think the returners at each position will be significantly better next year.

FWIW, I think Shavers was really hampered by his hand injury/cast and he's still a potential difference maker. But Wright was hit or miss, MWT had a fun diving sack and not much else, Bower was overmatched, and Merritt flashed a bit but then got hurt. Anyone know what the deal with Christian Jones is? I know not everyone is ready to play as a freshman, but I'm kinda surprised he never got out there.

Im guessing redshirt as he is not even listed on the 3 deep depth chart

Right, he definitely redshirted I'm just curious why. Or why he only participated in 2 games (Akron and HCU) when he could have had up to 4. Injury? Just that far behind? Just weird to me that when we were scrambling to even find 3 LBs to put on the field in the last two games of the year, a highly touted freshman with decent size wasn't even tried. Probably wouldn't have been better, but it's not like it would've hurt against Iowa (not sure if he traveled to PSU).

This is the thing I noticed the most. It was never the same issues every play or every game. Sometimes the line would get pushed around, sometimes they'd be in the backfield but not in position to make a play. Sometimes the backers would burst through and just whiff, or they would take poor angles. Sometimes backers would fill but get washed out by a blocker. Sometimes times backers just didn't flow to the ball with enough urgency, other times they over pursue and the cutbacks are wide open (counter plays just killed us). Then in pass coverage we never got home and teams would run a corner route or a deep out and lob it over the backers head to a wide open guy on the sidelines.

Wow this is pretty impressive. For a team that finished 4-5 in conference, the Huskers had several players All-B1G performers (Off Def & ST).

I know he wasn't perfect, but I thought Cuunan did really well on FGs.

They only had a running back and the two return spots. Everyone else was honorable mention.
