Word is everything is full-go behind the scenes. They're just trying to figure out when the "optics" are good enough to make it public.

There's never going to be a good time with the state of the state and a lack of funding for higher education these days. The only thing they could do is "donate" some money to the university at the same time the project is kicked off.

The reality is that it's not a good look for any school to throw hundreds of millions at athletics, but sports teams are actually a recruiting tool for academics as well (it's a 2-way street). So, there is some return on investment for the entire University.

Dude, I went to a game as a kid in Laramie at UW, and it was around 0 degrees. The bathrooms were open ended onto the concourse, and the piss river froze and would slightly melt with each new pee, then freeze again. That is a core memory that I'd like to not relive ever again.

Grew up in Laramie and am a UW alum- I remember all too well.
