I don’t know what most of this rambling means, but you can be disappointed that it didn’t work for a legacy player and still recognize that it’s best for the team to free up the scholarship.

yeah. That’s what I said. It’s not rambling. We’ve had some damn good players here the last 4-6yrs and not utilized them the right way.
Case in point…Wan’dale Robinson who transferred from us after we tried to make him a Duck-R or whatever hybrid WR/RB. He went to Kentucky, of all places, and had 94 f’ing catches for over 1k yards and is enjoying a nice NFL career.
What else do you do need to know?
When Dylan leaves us, that will actually free up some money. His leaving will actually free us up from “one player will return us.” type mentality. We just need some ballers.
Some guys who make plays and just play football. Dylan was a great 7v7 QB.
Oh! Here comes the actual blitz…pffft. He was good but not great.
Now we can have a whole team instead of our hopes on one player.

Good loss. Was never going to play here. Injury seemed to delay his development but he wasn’t very athletic.
Honest question as I am unsure. Can a school pull a schollie or dismiss a player from the team for failure to perform(contribute) or have “success”.

Of course a player can be removed from the roster. Pulling the scholarship depends on what was promised when it was given.
I know disciplinary issues factor in for dismissal, but unsure other reasons.
Not wanting my next comment to sound like a d!ck, but in the age of NIL, portal, roster/schollie limits, maybe coaches need to start cleaning house at the end of the year on their own. An internal portal transfer. Player didn’t develop, make the 2-3,deep, doesn’t fit scheme etc…. Or just plain stinks. Send them packing. Why can a player jump ship with no issues, but a team is held to a higher standard.
Pretty sure you're not supposed to be able to pull a scholarship. I believe they are four-year deals, at least in the B1G and probably other conferences. I would guess there is more room to pull or reduce an NIL or revenue sharing deal, but I'm not sure what stipulations are written into those agreements.
I think more often players are just told they're not likely to play and encouraged to find somewhere else where they might.

Teams can cut players... for whatever reason they choose. As Mav points out above, scholarships are a different thing all together. In other words, you can cut a player but his scholarship may remain but be moved to an academic scholarship.

I think they’re technically one year financial agreements that have to be renewed annually.
So in softer terms, contracts expire and aren’t renewed.
An easier way to say it for sure. I mean it’s semi pro at this point. Balance the leverage.
In the B1G they're guaranteed 4-years. Not every conference embraces that philosophy.

Rhule has said in the past that he sits down with each player and goes over their development and where he sees them best fitting. I would assume that he then indicates to some players that they can stay but they will not see the field, barring catastrophic positional injury, @ NU. He then goes over where he thinks that they may be able to go and see the field- other teams, down to FBS or whatever NDSU / Montana et al are called now, or Division 3.
He also has to re-recruit some players during this time.
If it is done openly and honestly, it is definitely to everyone's advantage to do this.
