Dylan Raiola

NU just had big momentum from Marshall's interception. It was USC's first drive of the 2nd half. And Huskers leading.

It was Dylan that held the ball, and fumble/sacked. So DR was the reason we did not get points on that drive, and gave the momentum back to USC. And they started moving the ball and scoring.

His super arm could have launched the ball away before the sack happened if he was more aware of situational football.

Despite the fact that on that play it was almost entirely his fault that he commits the turnover, he had been playing fairly well up to that point and was routinely good this year for some 4th quarter magic.

Much, much more likely to churn out some 4th quarter magic than our true freshman backup who came in unexpectedly.

Not a major point of debate for the season as a whole though.

Was that the play he broke his leg?

I think he means that we got a lot of PR by landing a 5*. Maybe we didn’t do anything with him, but DR news still scrolled through on the ESPN website and on X
So can we put this case study to rest? Hype, kind like the Calabasas Calibraska thing, did very little for this program in terms of wins/loses.

Need to figure out how to win football games instead of getting likes. It’s a football programs, not Real Houswives of Lincoln.

Calibraska…..And who can forget Micah Parsons coming on campus for the Friday Night Lights camp Riley put on….Didnt like the hire, but he got us 9 wins.

The Dylan fiasco did bring enough wins for 2 bowl games. Listen, I don't like watching the football we have played here for the past 15 years any more than the next guy, but the reality is, once you start grasping for straws, its a slippery slope. We started grasping for straws as a program many, many years before Rhule showed up. I am not sure Rhule is the guy that can find success here, but the Raiola straw was one that was necessary at the time, and I don't believe for a minute that Rhule didn't consider the way it could go in a "worst case scenario," when the decision was made. I just think this "worst case scenario," we found ourselves in is likely still better than where we would have been trying to go about it really, any other way given the landscape change in college football over the past 3 years. Obviously, we will never know for sure, but there is a way forward from where we stand now, even if the only thing that comes from it is a tough lesson to all on the amount of NIL these things are going to take and where we feel that money is best spent. NU is in the brains among players as a place that wants to spend to win, and that is the name of the current game.

Getting 5 star QB recruits is a good thing. As a matter of fact, programs should get as many of them as they can.
