Portal QBs

Lateef is our qb.

Bring in 1 or 2 backups to compete for depth..

It's embarrassing that most of yall are going nuts..... and NOT acknowledging who QB1 is.

Not all, but most.

🤬🤬🤬

But in hind site you will.

The way I see it.. Dylan told HCMR that he was entering the portal. Lateef is QB1 and a better fit to the offense Nebraska seems to be leaning to..

Yep.

Dylan is not a $1-$2 million dollar quarterback. Period.

Dylan beat MSU, Maryland, Northwestern, Purdue, and Rutgers 14-7. Toss in Cincy, shitty Wisconsin and shitty Colorado - I don't care. Most of those were games at home too.

I do not understand why some people fail to think that TJ cannot beat those same teams, and then some.

Lateef beat UCLA and Iamalieava on the road.
Dylan threw a pick sick against UCLA at home and lost.

Against iLLinois, Dylan's 25 yard sack in overtime that came after a shitty 4th quarter was embarrassing. Just like the sacks he took against Minnesota and Michigan. Every team knew how to frustrate him, and all it took was to play man coverage and send 4-5 guys to hit the statue.

I love the enthusiasm, but please stop using UCLA as the measuring stick :ROFLMAO: That's like using the water main as the bar to clear in a hurdles race.

In mop up duty against our lesser foes, Lateef looked good. Against an actual conference opponent he looked good as well.
UCLA beat a Penn State team we lost to. In other words….It’s hard to win football games in D1. Any win is a win.
Then “he lost” 2 games against teams we all thought might be 50/50 at best anyway.

I’d take quick feet and dart throws over holding on for completion % and taking a sack any day.

Lateef might be better than Dylan, but frankly I don't give a flip about comparisons to Dylan at this point. Being better overall than Dylan, for what we need and want in a QB, is not a high bar to clear. I mean if you're saying Lateef would've taken fewer sacks than Dylan, sure, but that's not saying much - we could have fielded literally any other FBS team's starting QB and taken fewer sacks!

A much better question is whether Lateef is the best QB we can get right now. I'd really like to have at least one other guy on the team who could at least give him a strong fight for the starter job.

Here's my concern. Rhule said he wants a more mobile QB with more QB runs....Dana wants the best QB available and fit the system to that guy. I think it's be much better to decide who/what we want to be and recruit for that across the board on O. Same with the defense.

Dana's thoughts:

Rhule's thought:

SI article on finding identity before QB:

Talk of 'identity' gets wishy-washy as hell. Frankly, I doubt most on this board could articulate any particular identity that exists in football beyond 'option', 'pro-style' (as if there's only one pro offense), or 'running QB vs non-running'. (Can anyone tell me what Osborne's offensive identity was pre-1980?)

I think this is a better way to look at the issue: is it realistic to build your roster around a QB, as a long-term strategy? You ultimately don't know how long a QB is going to be with you, and these days it might be pretty short. And offensive lines don't exactly turn on a dime in their development...

We would need to bring in three portal guys to maintain our current roster numbers. There's currently six QBs on the roster. Raiola, Gramstad, and Davila are leaving, Lateef, Soukup, and Longval are (as of now) staying.

Circling back to this, one thing I didn't know is that apparently Longval (junior) participated in Senior Day activities, so he's likely not coming back either.

So that leaves just Lateef and Soukup in the QBs room. We'd need to bring in four guys to get back to our previous number. So yeah, probably good that we're casting a wide net and looking at just about every halfway decent QB in the portal.

So would everyone be happy with the UNLV qb or James Madison qb as the starter next season? I know tons of husker fans don't want Chiles bc of his inconsistency at Michigan State. If we get a couple of qb's within the transfer portal and they do bad on the field does it fall on the player or the qb coach Glenn Thomas? I don't know what kind of difference he has made bc I don't think he even helped DR at all while he was playing.
