Portal QBs

Not much film out there for Minchey

I am glad you did this. He is a valuable backup in a P4 environment but I am 100% sure he wants to be a starter. Not sure why he is on the top 10 board. I think it's bc he once was a top recruit. But, Back in Spring, the ND consensus was still "meh" about him while he competed for a starting role and lost again. He is no improvement over Lateef imho. I just know we need depth but long-time backups don't want to be backups anymore.

Agree. No one is hitting the portal ti ride the pine. They are going to start or try to play for the NC.

I predict that TJ will eventually be a pretty good Power 4 quarterback.

But I don’t believe he’ll be ready by game one of next year to have us in a place where we can even go 7-5 next year with the schedule that we have.

And I don’t see why this take should be seen as super negative or not a big enough ‘skers cheerleader or whatever.

It’s a very reasonable take - and of course I’d love to be wrong. Have to make sure to get that part in there. It’s not a knock on him.

I agree, but if we go after a sure fire starter, TJ will more than likely leave. The catch 22 every program is facing

I don't necessarily disagree. The spin that seems to trigger some is if you attach the 7-5 part of your statement to Raiola.

If the guy we bring in is a junior or senior, he’s in the same boat that he would have been in with Raiola in terms of his class standing compared to Raiola’s.

But I hear you on the catch 22.

I think every team has to try to land the best possible players out of the portal that they can, though.

Thats the thing kids in this day and age don't really have time to develop bc every team is trying to get better with transfers. Nebraska loves TJ for what he has shown on the field but literally if Raiola wouldn't have gotten hurt he probably redshirts to try and develop. TJ has good skills as a qb just probably a year to early to play.

There are so many qb's hitting the portal its not even funny. I understand some want more money for themselves but the lower ranked ones just want a better opportunity to start or play and you can't blame them for trying. I know Nebraska wants to get in on certain qb's right away but I would try to hold a spot for Lincoln Kienholz. Dude can ball.

Did people not watch the Utah QB destroy us? I would even donate to get a legit dual threat QB. I would even take back Sims if the offense was fit for him. Nebraska had good running QBs forever and now we want to be Ohio State. Go back to being NEBRASKA! Also, can we please use tight ends? The rare position we can actually recruit locally as well.

Sorry, but we have more than qb issues on offense.

Of course but Lateef isn't the guy. The OL run blocked well this year - pass blocking for the OTs was not good of course. Tight ends are decent (even though we never throw to them) and many B10 teams would take our WR room over theirs. The defense however is a total joke.
Im not on the blame qb or OC band wagon. Our o-line has been horrible all year & because of this we had to shorten the playback. I also believe that we shortened it again for TJ.

According to DB on broadcast, the playbook also shortened quickly in the second quarter once Utah built a lead and didn’t respect our passing game. Crowded LOS, safeties creeping close to help the run and daring us to throw and bringing people.
