****Huskers vs Utah Game Day Thread****

I'd say Frank not getting Carl Crawford hurt. Firing him in 2003 really killed us. Needed 1-2 more years after staff changes
Betting the farm on Houston Nutt and missing and ending up with Cally who refused to fire Cos.
Hired Bo and refused to support him and recruiting, hated by AD, didn't like his temper, Carl and the boosters wife, Marvin and some recruiting trip issues....Fired Bo because well, Eichorst hated him and we didn't want to become iowa
That was a double whammy. Got rid of someone good for a minimum of 9 wins and gave Jirk the motivation to win 10 of the next 11.
Ugh.

The young fans got spoiled in the Solich years because we did not win championships and we became a coach revolving door. Solich had problems with his staff and fired some but the AD fired him before the new staff could make changes. We have been in the weeds ever since.
I think the pipelines from the high scholl
Coaches got cut and the new crowd with Callahan didn’t teach but only expected the “product” to deliver championships.
We need to support Rhule and demand the assistants “gel” and start developing players. Cignetti came from a highly successful program. He brought most of his staff and a lot of their players with him. We should have hired him but we didn’t, We can’t keep hiring and firing. We have to build a staff and team. We have been crap since the Callahan days and it won’t get better by firing and hoping over and over.

Truth. I still remember that speech....And our records against them since. That's was so hard to comprehend. We "recruit" better. They just out play and out develop. And then winning the Joe Moore award for best OL. Just out Nebraskaing Nebraska....I wish we'd just embrace that physicality and intensity again. Whatever scheme you want to run, just become the physical team on both sides of the LOS.

Negative Rhules been supported and failed I am withdrawing my yearly thousands of dollars spent on Husker Football until such a time as things start to at least look competent.

You make sense. As much as I rant to fire, the reality is, Solich fired staff (needed to) and wasn't allowed enough time to get them clicking. I mean Bo as DC in 2003 was a legit D. Cally is hired, needed to fire, but didnt and was fired. Bo comes back, loses some guys, re hires, loses guys and never gets it "back". I still think he needed more time. But back then, I was (and am) in the Boliever camp. Riley, Frost and Rhule, firing guys left and right trying to fid the right mix almost from jump. No time to see what's working or not.

Right now with Rhule, I can point to a lot of bad, not much good, but it's a circular firing squad. Better OL makes better QB makes better RB makes better WR makes better QB makes better run game etc....Which part is broken and what part(s) if fixed could have a trickle down effect of immediately improving another facet of the O or D? We just look so poor in almost all phases what do you do. And would better talent make the coaching look better? Has this staff developed the guys we have and they are just that bad? Or are the coaches so bad that even with talent they can't scheme accordingly.

I'd love it if Rhule and Co would bring in someone like Saban just to review what we are doing. Get the GOAT's input and opinion. Maybe even Urban Meyers. Just a set of proven eyes that had success for more than one year. In Rhule's record of turn arounds, there has never been a year 4. No telling what it'll look like. And I don't think he does either. But firing everyone, every year hasn't worked yet at Nebraska. And our most successful years did have stability...

I've got vivid memories of sitting in south stadium watching K State put up 560 yards and 38 points that year... :ROFLMAO:
I'd take that drunk monkey and his 9-10 wins back now tbh. Unsure if we will get there again with Rhule.

Then the after game "exchange"....

Bo got him back as HC going 4-0 against him though. Ran the score up pretty well on w occasions. I don't think Bo forgot a lot of "slights".

Did we ever reach out to Urban before/after Frost was booted?

I don't care if Urban spent 5 years living on Epstein island, he would be as close to a home run as we could get. I guess the perfect choice would be Stoops, but the call there would need to be made shortly after he retired. The timing would've worked out. And yes, I know that ship has sailed. "What ifs" are the only Xmas presents we have right now.
