2026 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

Yep. Most of the teams we play in Nov are going to have winning records with many/most of them being ranked. Probably not fair to expect wins against that type of competition. I predict our late season woes will continue for the foreseeable future.
I see nothing to say that changes until we start to change them. 3 years is a pretty decent snap shot to predict year 4 expectations for Nov....Brutal.

Noticed that November stat mentioned at one of the Husker FB pages. That made me wonder about him, about Rhule's psyche, a bit. 'Tween that fact and his 7 wins per season max. Aaaannnnnd of course his 2-25 win/loss stat against ranked teams (the NIL and portal stuff doesn't figure into that long term stuff).

The contract extension seemed okay during the Penn State stuff in the news. But now I feel like that may have been not needed. His pledge to build things is and was still there. He did give us the 7 wins and the bowl. Am I the only one who feels conflicted about his abilities and possibilities here?
I, like many here, still harbor hope that these new coaches and an influx of transfers can turn the tide and get us to 10 wins. But when I step back from fandom, and truly evaluate where we are, I know deep down that Matt Rhule isn't capable of elevating us past where we are right now. Dana isn't either. Maybe Aurich and Ek can turn us into Iowa in one season?

I am grateful Rhule has improved some things here, gotten us a couple bowls, but this is the peak, I'm convinced. Good coaches do not take 4 years to finally figure it out, they simply don't.

This. Good coaches don't take 3 years to turn things around. And have we really improved or was Frost that bad....Rhule is still a .500 HC, no ranked wins in 29 tries (?), beat 2 teams this year (regular season) with winning record, and all of this with an AA RB and still had an offense incapable of beating teams in Nov. Throw in Dana as OC whose offense goes MIA for large parts of the game and it's an issue.

The defense is still struggling to stop the run, stop the pass, and play with basic fundamentals...

Firing guys is a great thing to try. I applaud Rhule for this. But then I start to look at it like a NASCAR team that fires the crew chief, gas man, jack man, tire man and realizes it's the driver....Starting to realize Rhule is firing guys he's hired and we still struggle to field a competent team in any phase save ST's (Ekeler can tell Barney to take the fair catch and the yards).

Nebraska had 10 total drives:
157 yards and 14 points those first 2 drives or 46% of our total offense. 23% of total offense per drive.
186 yards remainder of the game on 8 final drives. 6.75% of offense per drive.
Dana is a great script writer, but then he gets demolished. He failed to adjust and has predictable tendencies opposing DC's exploit. He had no answer.

So yea, I am confident 6-7 wins is Rhule's ceiling at NU.

I feel like Rhule is going to be like coaches at Northwestern. Every 4 years we'll field a team that is a pain in everyone's a$$ but just not quite good enough

i just hope we revamp everything. we need to look like a completely different team at every position. i don't care if we lose, but at least try something completely different.

Hey Chicken Little's, the sky isn't falling. Watch some basketball and take your mind off of football.

Rhule may or may not get us there but stating the same things in post after post isn't doing anything other than comforting the others in your pity party and prolonging your misery that we didn't hire cignetti.

I clicked the thumbs up thingy for everything up to the "prolonging your misery that we didn't hire cignetti." I have never entertained the (absurd) .. (stupid) .. (wacko from Mars opining about Earth's sports affairs) notion that Curt Cignetti would come to coach Nebraska football, any more than entertaining the notion that Bryan Moynahan would come to my house weekly to manage my checking account and repeatedly superglued piggy bank. We got the guy who is in our lane, in our (arrived at via torn parachute) league now. Honestly.

But yeah, we piss and moan about it all too much, I agree.
