Versus Rhule getting paid $8million in today’s dollars. NU got quite the ROI on Tom’s salary while NU has been taken to the cleaners by today’s coach and the 2 before himFWIW
$30,918 in 1976 = $180,237.48 in todays dollars.
There is a slight adjustment in the value of the football program as well. There were no TV contracts in 1976. What's almost criminal is he was only making about 200k/year in the mid 90s.Versus Rhule getting paid $8million in today’s dollars. I actually think what is criminal is now. We all pay so much in tickets (some in donations) TV subscriptions, merchandise, on line subscriptions, media and nil (through companies/people that pay it.There is a slight adjustment in the value of the football program as well. I agree they are way overpaid now but, for what they, and their families, have to deal with, they should be paid a lot.I actually think what is criminal is now. Personally, I think a $200,000 salary in the 90s for a football coach is more in line with the real world than 8-10 million now, especially when you consider what they get when they get fired.
Great article. Can't believe it's been 30 years. My wife and I watched the game with 2 couples - One couple die hard Sooners the other die hard Florida fans. They both said Florida would win. As Tommie said - They don't know what was about to hit them. I think my favorite play in the game was actually 2 plays - Safety #1 not called a safety followed by THE SAFETY that destroyed Florida.![]()
