Obviously yes, it’s a loss.
But we offered him top pay and he chose to move on, just as he’s done at every previous place he’s been.

Does this mean all of the HCs he’s coached with have screwed the pooch like the handful of naysayers here claim? I don’t think so. Best case Ekeler himself is the common denominator.

apparently because he wasn't named to coach another position? it seems to me that he is exceptional where he is at...why would he want to change jobs? or why would rhule want him coaching another position when he is so good where he is at? if we offered excellent money i guess i have no issue with ek choosing to leave...wish he could be happy enough being a super star special teams coach here but he has his own agenda i guess.

There has been speculation that he wanted to also be a position coach. But I'm not sure that's actually the case.
 
I'd speculate that Ek felt somewhat embarrassed when Rhule publicly overruled him by demanding Jacory fair catch the 3rd one, rather than return out of the endzone, which was Ek's preferred attack strategy of being agressive. This public disagreement (along with the fact that Ek wasn't a "Rhule guy " quickly escalated into a public quibble.
I really hope Rhule and Ek would sit down privately and calmly sort it out, but I fear it may have already moved beyond that.
