2025-2026 College Football Playoff

HS recruiting is about to take a backseat to portal acquisitions at a lot of programs now. With the unrestricted portal that currently exists, it makes way more sense to just stock up on experienced players like Indiana did this season.

This is where formalized contracts are surely just around the corner. Because no program wants to be the rube that develops a player only for them to be stolen away from a higher bidder when they're a redshirt junior.

It's completely broken in its current form.

Does Indiana has some money? Sure. But I don't think the money they are spending is what many on here believe it is. If they had this huge war chest they would have brought in more than five 4* transfers in their 2024 and 2025 portal classes combined (for comparison Nebraska brought in six 4*portal additions just in 2025 alone).

Indiana was 25th in the portal according to 247 last year (23 total additions - 3 4*s, 18 3*s). In 2024 (Cig's first portal class), Indiana was 30th in the portal (31 total additions - 2 4*s, 26 3*s).

I think they are spending quite a lot on retention FWIW, which is more important in keeping an 11-2 team intact than it is for us. I'm ok with our portal class. This is probably just me being a homer, but portal rankings are nowhere near as refined as the high school rankings (which obviously are not perfect either). 247 had Nico as the top QB transfer last year. Their top WR (Singleton) averaged 9.2 yards per catch. Justice Haynes looks pretty good as their top RB, but Jadyn Ott was #3. Roman Hemby was #15. Whether they can replicate it year after year remains to be seen, but I don't think they plan to use their money the same way TT does just targeting the presumed top guys at each position.
