New ST Coach Mike Ekeler

I think everyone knows it isn't where they should be. It isn't the whining they should be worried about. It is apathy.

I just don't need to hear about it every other thread. I think no one is happy. In the off-season I want to look forward and see if it is going to get better, not look back and beat a dead horse. As a leader, that is what I do.
Well said, thank you! I don't think anyone is happy with the state of the program, and there are many faults to find with what Rhule has done (or not done) here. But the constant b!tching and moaning about things, making the same (weak) points over, and over, and over again, just gets tiresome. I'm just glad that Huskerboard doesn't limit how many people can be on my ignore list...

We already had guys...?? Aurich didn't want him..?? Rhule didn't want to assign him an "assistant head coach" moniker..?? Ek wanted to much money..?? 🤷‍♂️ Bottom line is he didn't get what he wanted here and USC was willing to give it to him... Good luck..

So, to sum up, you're saying we refused to pay him more and give him the title "assistant head coach," both of which USC just did?

Obviously we will never win another game because our special teams coach left for another opportunity. He should’ve been paid $10M and given numerous other job titles and responsibilities because, let’s face it, RHULE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE’S DOING and should’ve never been hired. Ekeler is the only coach in CFB that can eke (see what I did there) out normal, average special teams play. We didn’t improve in that area because we abysmally sucked, we only improved because of Ekeler.

And unrealistic Tennessee fans said the same thing last year just like the many other teams from the past...

Why are you so caught up about the special teams coach? Seriously man, the guy job hops his entire career and you see him continuing to do so as evidence that our coach isn't doing his job? Rhule offered him top pay for that position and he didn't stay. Maybe he job hops because his system is a shot in the arm for programs but is more challenging to sustain? Some guys are just fixers but they aren't good at long term positions. In any event - Its over, done, in the past- get over it.

No one is saying that. Stop being a drama queen.
Don’t sell yourself short.
There’s only a few of us here that recognize what an utter travesty this is. Ekeler definitely would’ve been with us many, many years, even though he has stayed nowhere for more than 1 or 2 years, if Rhule weren’t such a bum that is clearly trying to get fired ASAP.

Have you followed the story and interviews or just wallowing in Husker1's posts? This wasn't a pay issue.

I believe the guy really wants to climb the ladder and is searching for the opportunity to do so. Obviously Rhule, and the many coaches before him, didn't feel he was worthy of the roles he aspired to be in. I don't blame Ek for trying but I also can't fault Rhule for anything with this situation either. There are obviously reasons the guy hasn't been promoted to higher positions in the past, and held on to them, otherwise he wouldn't be job hopping as a STC.

What would have been the harm in making him one of the top paid ST coaches in the country and giving him the title of assistant head coach?

But but but…IF Rhule had actually, really, for reals offered top ST pay, I know he would’ve stayed. He just would’ve because that is the only consideration for anyone in their job. Therefore, the stories of us actually offering top pay are pure bullshyt. Even guys that change jobs like I change my underwear would stay for top position pay. So, I might, just might, drone on and on about for awhile.

In other news. Today I was out walking, saw a $20 bill lying on the ground and stepped over it to pick up a penny. Pennies, much like a special teams coach, are what’s most important in the grand scheme of things.
