New ST Coach Mike Ekeler

What a lame excuse. Pessimists always claim to be realists, but if the team is successful, they weren’t actually based in reality at all. We have no idea what next season will be like, so all you can be is an optimist or a pessimist (there are plenty of reason for either view, but don’t pretend you’re not a pessimist).
Just like people that claim to be "really honest" are really just big bitches.

I get what you are saying BUT we do have an idea how next year will go, or at least more of an idea if we base it off Matt and his track record as a 500 coach.

Now, do we know for sure? Of course not. But to say we have NO idea, well, that really is not fair.

As far as being excited and hoping for a great season? Hell yeah. I hope NU wins every game the play.

I also hope that at the end of the season NU is looking for a new head coach.

You are delusional. College football is not much different than many other organizations. When a new leader takes over there is often optimism and hope. As time goes by the leader will be judged not by initial hope but rather by outcomes that were delivered. That is when realism comes into play...assessing the data and outcomes to determine faith in that leader moving forward. Based upon your comments, I am guessing you never felt Riley or Frost should have been fired...is that correct?

Your approach is reasonable other than your first sentence and last few words that try to put words in others mouths.

Lets look at the data and apply your simple results based approach-
2017 regular season record 4-8
2018 regular season record 4-8
2019 regular season record 5-7
2020 regular season record 3-5
2021 regular season record 3-9
2022 regular season record 4-8
2023 regular season record 5-7
2024 regular season record 6-6
2025 regular season record 7-5

Would you not agree that the last 3 years are better than the 6 years previous? Would you agree that each year we have improved our regular season record? Wouldn't this at least dictate some faith in said leader moving forward? Of course, if the trend reverses, you re-evaluate but based on your evaluation metrics, we have a program that is incrementally getting better each year so therefore deserves at least some faith that the trend may continue.

Take a step back. In the end you might be right but currently you are the one who is delusional.

You also left out the the 2016 season which was the best Nebraska season over the past decade. Why did you leave that one out but include include Riley's last season? Do you feel Riley, at 19-19, should have been fired after 3 seasons?

Also, can you share with me Rhule's track record against ranked teams? I am happy to move this to another thread as this point as I realize the initial discussion has been focused on the ability to retain Eckeler and is now pivoting to overall leadership abilities of the HC.

I felt that 6 years was the appropriate time frame to consider since that would encompass any players who could potentially be left over from a roster that Matt inherited. I agreed completely with letting Riley go because he was trending down - no question there was reason to lose faith in his ability to lead the team based on concrete results. He won 5 fewer games than the season before.

We all know that Matt's record against ranked teams isn't good. That's a legitimate concern that deserves some attention, especially going forward if he can't start to beat some of those teams. Bo had similar issues and in reality, Nebraska has been under 20% win rate for well over 20 years. Beating ranked teams is what Matt will need to do in order to continue his trend of improvement. He will be judged based on the win/loss column just like everyone before him.

Again, you may be right but you are pulling the trigger way too fast. There are legitimate concerns and I guarantee Rhule would agree with those. He knows what he has to do in order to retain the position. Lets give him a chance to do it. If he fails to continue the upward trend, then we move on.

Bo isn't coming back.... sorry.

Your stance is fair though and I get it. I want to see how it plays out with Trae and company in 2027. . Hoping we improve next year so we can see it.
Man, that is a long time...
Two more years, with the second year being a true freshmen QB...No thanks on that timeline. Especially if this year is lame.

I wish Bo would come back but we have so many resident posters that are scared of him still.

If Bo was here, we would have very little NIL funds. The reason he is not here is because he broke too many bridges with alumni & donors. Nebraska is still a TO state, meaning ethics & honor. Bo has neither!

I get it but it just won't happen for a lot of reasons. We definitely need some good players and performance to bridge the gap between now and when Trae and his group of saviors are performing on the field. That is probably 2028 or 2029 before that group reaches potential.

What? What did Bo ever do that makes you think he doesn't have "ethics" or honor?

TO hid a Texasing gun for a player and kept dudes on the team that beat women and sexually assaulted women.

Its called social media. TO did not have to worry about, Bo did. I met Bo several times, as Carls kids went to school with mine. Carl & Bo were at a lot of school events. Carl was easy to talk to. Bo was not a social person & the crap that came out of his mouth in public was unreal. Bo was a good coach, but he did not fit the Nebraska values. Im guessing you are a win at all costs kind of guy.

Wait
So what TO did was okay, letting guys stay on the team that beat up girls...

But Bo "saying bad words" is crossing the line?

I also met them both, they were both normal guys, just like most of us.
