just curious what everyone thinks is the level that this staff needs to bring in to get us back to old levels(note I consider old levels more along the lines of 80's nebraska, not 90's) the time frame is like a 4-5 year window to get there.

this was supposed to be a poll..... not sure what happened.

I was asking what type of class recruiting ranking we need to bring in

the options were A) top 5-10, B)10-15, C)15-20, D) 25-30, E) or that recruiting ranking are pointless and dont matter at all

C. It's great to be a top 5-10 class but it isn't a necessity, same with top 15. However anyone who still has this misconception that T.O. won NCs without top 15 recruiting classes is out of their minds and needs to get there head out of their collected arses. You have to have talent to win and the truth of the matter is there was less than 3 team that had more talent in the mid 90's than what nebraska had. Callahans great recruiting and mediocre results have some people solified on this idea that Nebraska can do great things with nothing, and that stars don't mean anything but it isn't really true. You can find a lot of diamonds in the rough but not enough to build a high caliber team. If Nebraska happens to return to dominance we need to be steady in the top 20 at the very least.

Regardless of the ranking, a class full of guys that qualify, work hard and truly want to play will serve us best. If we are looking at them, they will be D1 quality. Hopefully the coaches will find out about their work ethic and desire and not just take them due to their ****'s or what other big schools are recruiting them.

What only matters is that Pelini and his staff get many of the prospects that they rate high.
BINGO ... I'm not worried at all with Bo and the staff as far as recruiting .... they're smart enough to find the talent they need.... it's always out there.. they just have to find it

While I don't think having highly ranked recruits is totally necessary to have a great team, consistent classes in the Top 15-20 keeps good headlines around the program and will help us land those one or two "difference makers" each year.

Incidentally, we are not far from that this year. 6 or so of our "3 stars" are "almost 4 stars", meaning they are rated 5.7, wherer 5.8 garners that 4th star (on rivals). If those guys were 4 stars we'd have a Top 20 class easy.

I am confused, are you asking if I would rather have a # 1 recuirting class versuses a middle of the pack class. Is there any question, if you trust Bo you expect him to get the players that fit but you might as well have the most natural talent you can have

I said top 15-20 classes because I think we need to sustain that to build up the program again. After we do that the top 5 classes like USC gets should take care of themselves. The thing is though a good coach can do alot with the right athlete.

Actually, you might want to tell SuperPrep to "get their head out of their collected arses". They ranked the averages of the classes leading up to the '94 and '95 championship teams at around 18th to 19th. There were a few top 15's in there, but not exclusively. We had great talent, but it wasn't necessarily talent that would be recognized under today's Rivals ratings nor was it entirely recognized by the services at the time.

i don't know about rivals and scouts rankings, but i do think we need to take the best athletes we possibly can.

If we do this, then it doesn't really matter what rivals says - top 30 or top 5.

Added the poll.
thank you sir.... do you have any idea what I did wrong?
No - but the most common thing is failing to "close" the pole. Below is a "how-to" that might help everyone.

Here's how to create a poll:

1. Start a new Topic.

2. Give the Topic a title, just as normally.

3. Below the title, notice the part circled in red. Click it.

4. You'll see the window below.

5. Enter a title in the field circled in red, below.

6. Next, click the link below, circled in red.

7. Enter a heading for the poll (Poll Content) - it can be the same as the title. See the field circled in red, below.

8. Click "Add Poll Choice" link, circled in red, below.

9. The window below appears. Enter your first poll choice in the field, and click the link below it, shown in the red circle, below.

10. Repeat Step 9 for each voting option in the poll.

11. When done, click the link circled in red, below.
