Greg Sharpe has been named the new voice of Husker football.

We are very excited to have a broadcaster with the qualifications and character that Greg brings to the Husker Sports Network as the voice of the Huskers," said David Witty, Vice President and General Manager of Husker Sports Properties. "Greg possesses a wealth of knowledge of Husker Sports and has an outstanding reputation as a professional broadcaster. He will be a great addition to our network."

Via a press release:

In addition to his duties as the play-by-play voice of Husker football and baseball, Sharpe will continue to serve as the play-by-play announcer for men's and women's basketball on Fox Sports Net. He will also host the football and baseball coaches TV shows, appear on Sports Nightly, and host various functions throughout the year. He will also serve as an account executive in the sales operation of the Husker Sports Network.

Sharpe has been active with University of Nebraska athletics since 2003, serving as the play-by-play voice of the Husker Pay-Per-View football games, Husker men's and women's basketball games on Fox Sports Net, and Husker baseball on Cox Cable. He was the play-by-play radio announcer for the final three football games of the 2007 season and has hosted the Bo Pelini Television Show since November, 2007. He was also the play-by-play announcer for the Nebraska Spring Game on the NFL Network in April, 2007.

"It is an incredible honor to be joining the Husker Sports Network," Sharpe said. "I have had a great appreciation for Nebraska athletics and through my various associations with the University the last four years that has only grown. My goal is to provide an entertaining and informative broadcast to Husker fans throughout Nebraska and the country in the coming years. My family and I are extremely excited to get to Lincoln to start supporting the Big Red."

I think it's a good decision.

I would love to know the real story about Jim Rose quitting. I still find it hard to believe he left his dream job because he was tired??? Makes no sense, especially at his age.

Greg's wife Amy just announced she would be leaving Topeka from her TV anchor position on the 6 news tonight.

These are class people and I hope the naysayers look past Greg's KSU degree.

He earned the job. He is a professional and KSU hated to lose him when WIBW lost the contract with Wildcat sports network.
