8-Man Football Schools

Adjusting to more players on the field provided some initial trepidation and later adaptation for Dean Steinkuhler after he played eight-man high school football.

But as soon as Steinkuhler started scrimmaging at Nebraska, he was confident he eventually would be able to play for the Cornhuskers. Even if it meant adjusting to three new teammates on the field.

I like watching 8 man it is different but it is still football, just like arena leauge. Also always wanted to see 6 man but they got rid of that in Nebraska before I was old enough to care

We play 6-man in intramurals (not very competitive). It's decently fun. 3 line, QB, 2 WR. On D, rush 2, 2 corners, backer, and safety.

6-man EVERYONE is elligible. Imagine Rimington out for a pass against some poor safety?

Yeah, everyone is eligible, but we usually still have a line. Typically the center goes downfield and the two tackles are getting beaten by the pass rush. For us, anyway.

Herschel Walker played 8 man football in Georgia and he didn't seem to have any problems as a true freshman running over the big city cats!

Over and through. Saw the Georgia and South Carolina game from his freshman year (the duel with George Rogers) on ESPN classic the other day. The basic play call seemed to be hand the ball to Walker and stand back. He'd run full-speed into a group of 3 or 4 guys and get 5 yards after the first contact. Of course, after getting knocked down 15 or 20 times, guys get real shy about getting in front of him so he breaks off 60 or 70 yard touchdown runs since no one was going to catch him from behind. Just a beast. Like a pro RB against high school kids.

We still have 6 man in Texas. You talk about some wild games! I compair it like flag football with pads. Everyone can go out for a pass. It's insane but fun to watch!

6 Man Rules:

1. Field is 40x80 yards vs. 50x100

2. 15 yards for a first down

3. All players are eligible receivers

4 . There must be a 'clean exchange' of the football. The quarterback must hand off, pitch or throw the ball before it can cross the line of scrimmage.

5 . Field goal is worth 4pts, kicked PAT is 2pts and a run/pass PAT is 1 pt.

6 . If at any point after halftime, a team leads by 45 points or more, the game is over.

Rashan Salaam (sp) that played for CU also played 8 man in hs. How about Diedrick. Doesn't Canada play with 12? IMO, it really doesn't matter whether or not you played 11 man in hs or not because there's a huge gap between hs and college just like there is between college and pro. If players in hs look like men among boys, then they'll probably have no problem playing at the next level. I still remember Ahman in hs. He looked like a man amongst boys and had absolutely zero trouble his first year.

For what its worth im pretty sure the 6 man championships are held in Kearney every year. They have been the last couple of years anway. I teach in a small school (8 man football) and I havent heard of some of these 6 man schools before.
