NU can't overlook W. Michigan

...I would think that our O-loine will wear them down and Watson will show that we intend to run the ball this year.

The Huskers will be ready and they will be hungry. I look for a win by at least 21 points.
I would hope we keep our loins tucked inside our pants.

Other than that..I'm glad Appalachian State did what they did to Mechicken so recently..Coaches will be able to use that as an example for another few years yet to keep their teams focused.

agree, there are "giant killers" on every one's schedule and the little schools don't feel nearly as intimidated as they used to be.......got to be careful here.

i had a dream last night that my dad was listening to the game on the radio with my grandfather, and for some reason i wasn't paying attention to the game (that's how you know it was a dream). anyways, i asked him what the score was and he didn't answer right away, just had a solemn look on his face. i asked him again and finally he answered "13-9" and he didn't say in whose favor.

what a horrible dream. callahan has brought my spirit to this. pelini needs to bring it back.

clownahan=ghost of the past=forgotten.

oh yah. nebraska v. ball state from last year? any team on any given day can win if you give them enough opportunity.

that being said, i'm hope this this game will be an opportunity for the kids to really show the staff what they've learned the past few months.
Yes exactly, also an opportunity to not show any fear or self doubt.

LOL, my chicken pecking must have been a little too fast

There's a difference between the fans looking forward to a critical game in our non-con schedule and the team doing it. As fans and amateur sports commentators, there's a definite reason we're looking at the VA Tech game as a day where Nebraska needs to shine. On paper we should handle our first three opponents with enough room to get the third stringers a little action. But Pelini isn't watching from afar. He's got to prepare for every game and you better believe he's going to have that team in the proper mindset. Considering the fact that we don't even have any Blackshirts playing yet, an opening home game where we nastily demolish the opponent is just what the doctor ordered.

i am not so sure the 2nd and 3rds will see that much action....no matter how solidly we are playing......reason, the 1st string guys need a lot of reps and need to get conditioned for a full 4 quarters of game time..i could be wrong, but resting inexperienced guys on the bench wouldn't help prepare them for 4 full quarters of head knocking football.......??

Agreed.

Honestly, I don't think this game is that much of a threat. I know some smaller conference schools can compete outside of their division (the Boise State's), but those teams are usually kicking the crap out of their own conference. Boise State has only lost one conference game in the past in the past 6 years. They can mix it up with the talent and size of the big boys, but they are dominating their own conference.

Western Michigan is a middle-of-the-packer in the middle of the pack.

Our offense was decent last year, and much more effective with Ganz at the helm. Defensively, if you think Bo's defensive production will be anything like what we put on the field last year, we shouldn't even be whispering the "V" word. We could be 0-3 by that time.

Luckily though, we have the size and talent to run all day long against WMU. I'm not placing any bets, but with the horses we have in the 3-deep, we could put up 400 yards rushing...seriously. WMU gave up 400 yards/game last year, and if we weren't looking to exercise our "multiplicity on offense", we could run for every one of them.

Wait a second, we gave up 477 yards/game last year.....let's not go by old stats.

<_<

I'm not too worried about the first three games but it doesn't mean that I'm totally overlooking them. I have confidence in our football program and Bo Pelini to lead our team against our first three opponents to a 3-0 start and to face VT in Lincoln.

:corndance

we won 5 games last year and almost got beat by ball state. we shouldnt overlook anyone

You seriously need a break from all this...

although it is a new year, granted, last years numbers are a bit troubling...to say the least. i know i am off the koolaide for now........

Heck, parity itself would make anyone wonder what their team will do this year, unless they were just totally stacked with depth. I guarentee that a top 10 team will lose to a virtual nobody the first three weeks of the season. I know we aren't top 10, and won't be for a while, but I don't want to see us lose to someone that we shouldn't even be playing.

I can easily see the Huskers going into halftime down by 3 or 10. Or even up by only a single touchdown. There will be rust, nerves, missed assignments, dropped passes, over throws, missed tackles, turnovers, untimely penalties, etc. Under the lights, first game jitters stuff. Regroup, refocus. Make adjustments. Play more physical in the second half.

I do not see the Huskers losing the game. It's the first half the bugs me some.
