Is Clemson=Okie State?

I would be much more afraid of OSU than Clemson. Robinson is a more refined QB with much more big play ability, either by his arm or legs. Harper has a made a habit of making bad choices this season. He has more INTs than TDs.

Clemson's backs have a lot of hype, but not the production. OSU has the production but no hype. Davis leads Clemson with 725 yards and a 4.6 average, and Spiller has 612 yards and a 5.6 average. OSU's Hunter has 1518 yards and a 6.7 average and Toston 658 and a 7.0 average. For that matter NU's Helu as 804 yards and a 6.7 average.
Fair assessment.

:yeah :yeah :yeah

It's fine that Helu is flying under the radar...just fine! ;)

CJ Spiller stats:

G Rush Recv. Punt Ret. Kick Ret. Int. Ret. Plays Total Yards Yards/Play Yards/G

11 612 430 127 419 0 168 1588 9.5 144.4

He doesn't just run.

no, but the point is he isn't as great as he is touted... and the "yards per play" being 9.5 is including kick returns??? because uh, that skews it a TON

Oh believe me, Spiller is as great as he is touted. The reason our RB's #'s have been down so much this year is because there has been no one to block for them. We have been breaking in 3 or 4 freshman and suffered alot of injuries up front from a group that was already struggling. It honestly has taken us an entire season to get even "some" continuity on the offensive line. What people fail to relize is that Clemson has had to replace 4 of its 5 starting offensive lineman for 2 years in a row. I don't care who you are, if that happens to your program you are going to struggle. Now that we have seen the offensive line develop a little over the past month or two Spiller has been able to get into space and we have found more ways to get him the ball. Davis is also getting more production as he is able to actually run through holes instead of being hit in the backfield right as he gets the ball.

I'm not saying that Spiller will win the game for us, but he will definetly be the most explosive player Nebraska has seen all year. He is one of those Reggie Bush type of players that can score anytime he touches the ball. In 3 years he has more plays of 50+ yards than any player in Clemson history. In my lifetime I have never seen a Clemson player with the speed he displays.

Yea, I'm a helluva QB, but I'm on my azz all the time because I have no blockers... <_<

With all due respect, he is simply not the most explosive player we have seen. We played OU, MU and TT. Murry, Maclin, Crabtree all come to mind as being more explosive.

Yes, I took that into account. Murray, Maclin, and Crabtree are all GREAT players but I do not think they are as explosive as Spiller. You put him on any of those teams and he is the best player on the field. I have yet to see a game at Clemson where he was not the most talented player on the field. Again, that does not always translate into production. Football is the ultimate team sport and Clemson is evidence of this. You can have all the skill in the world, but if the big boys up front don't do their job then your out of luck. Hopefully their progression will continue in the bowl game. Again, I am taking absolutely nothing away from any of the players you mentioned, but you will see what I'm talking about Jan. 1st. Spiller is the type of talent that only comes around every so often. He will make you ask yourself, "Did he just do that?"

this is highly entertaining, one kittie pawing another on a Husker football board. go get 'em Cacti! :box

I those videos Helu looks a lot like our RB James Davis. Good field vision and hard to tackle, but not a burner speed wise. The difference with spiller is that if he gets one step ahead he is gone. The only times anyone came close to catching him was vs Auburn a DB ran behind him for about 40 yards without losing much ground and vs Duke a DB almost did catch him when he was recovering from a pulled hamstring. He is full speed now. Here is a video with more than one play.

The game's going to be hard fought and close, either team could win it by, say, 3-4 points, is my prediction.

I was in no way trying to say that Spiller's speed would translate in to production. If he is contained at the line of scrimmage there is nowhere to go. I expect Nebraska to scheme to close down the running lanes. We need to get the ball to Kelly, Spiller and Ford on some quick out routs or underneath passes off play action just behind the LB's. If we can get the ball to these guys in the open field we can cause some trouble. The last thing I expect Clemson to do is ram the ball down the defenses throat. We haven't shown the strength to do that this year even though the OL does average over 320lbs.

I also am worried that nebraska can power the ball inside because of the short passing game keeping the defenders honest. I am guessing we play zone and go man with blitzes just enough to keep the QB guessing.

It should be a great game and doubt there will be any more physical a game on that day. Should be a lot of collisions. I wish I could play in it even though I would be carried off in the first quarter.

Good Luck. Those making the trip be safe.
