H1N1 virus and NU Football

HuskerBoard is always concerned with the welfare of its members. As a public service, we herewith provide the following to enable members to quickly identify those suffering from the disease...

We're all praying for your wife to get well soon.

Right now the H1N1 virus isn't as big of a threat right now. THe only thing I fear is if it mutates during this fall

I will simply go to the games with a steril mask that is RED, and also have a consession stand that sells them at a $1.00 profit each. Sell 25,000 for each game and NOW I CAN RETIRE!

My God, I do love Capitolism.

Those masks are in pretty short supply, so you might want to consider an alternative that's sure to be handy...

If you've been following this flu outbreak you know the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has raised the threat level of this latest flu strain to "pandemic," meaning it's out of control right now and spreading. It's certainly not time to hit the panic button - of 27,717 confirmed cases in America, only 127 have resulted in deaths. But if you follow pandemics, the great flu pandemic of 1918 had an outbreak in the Spring, a quiet Summer, then lots of fatalities in the ensuing Fall and Winter. If this one mirrors that one we could be in for a bumpy ride in the Fall.

What that means is, if this thing breaks out this Fall, and the pandemic is in full swing, it's possible we could see lots of people avoiding public places. Memorial Stadium is about as public as it gets in Nebraska. Wouldn't that be bizarre if this flu ended up being the thing that ended the only streak we have left?

All the tickets for 2009 have already been sold, I believe. It may affect the actual attendance, but I doubt it does anything to the sale of tickets.
This.

There were a few games last year that the stadium wasn't even close to full but it was still a sell out because of ticket sales.

Except that for almost every game there are some tickets returned by the visitors which are then sold at the ticket office. I've sat in these seats before. So not EVERY ticket is sold for every home game at this point.

Actually I am impressed at the numbers KU did put up, I was expecting far worst results for KU. They are on the upswing.

Granted - attendance and sold tickets don't neccessarily match up (give away free tickets?) and different universities count attendance differently, but Jawhawk . . .

please know what you are talking about - back up you position and you might get more respect.

Thank's for the tip AR. I'm thinking get into Lincoln and knock on every door in the girl's dorms in search of red ones. This may be the chance of a life time. So many doors, so little time want to lend a hand AR? It might be a good to have a lawyer along anyway.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Pelini has just cancelled the 2009 through 2013 football season, his short statement just being released to the press and via email to UNL students:

“As we all know, today we are in the midst of a pandemic due to the possibility of the porcupine influenza affecting three people in the Southern most portion of Florida in four months. This is obviously a global issue that needs to be stopped before it spreads to the fourth person in Georgia and the fifth person in Alabama, therefore getting within a few states of Nebraska.

We’ve decided to take the precautionary, yet necessary step of cancelling the 2009 through 2013 seasons.

Even though we understand that this strain of flu is no worse than the regular flu - other than we are not immune to it - we feel this is the correct step to take. We also understand that the definition of the word "pandemic" is being used in a ridiculous fashion and people really have no idea what the word "pandemic" means. We further understand that there are six or seven hospitals just in the metro area of Omaha alone that are more than equipped to handle such a disastrous disease like the flu, but there is a possibility that they could all fill up and everyone would die. I’m sorry to say that Nebraska will not be playing football until 2014 at the earliest. May peace be with you all during this blown-out-of-proportion time...I mean...difficult time."

In good health,

- Bo Pelini

Well, since I go to at least 2 games a year at memorial and saw that the stadium had empty seats, i've even seen husker fans leave early. I'm not trashing on your tradition at all. As for Kansas, realize we have two major college teams with about a 50/50 split in the state. Add those two attendances together and you get over 96000 Kansans watching D1 football on a saturday during the 2008 season. I think you guys should really look into getting a stadium that holds 100,000. I do not think you would have a problem selling it out. Would be an even better experience.

Better yet - while you collect the "masks", I'll lend two hands as a show of, uh, support for the young ladies who donate to the cause...

The the UNL coeds ready this post - no need to thank me. I'm happy to help...
